A gorgeous and monumental building with a design I am tempted to describe as somewhat archeological in style. It is located near the Central Bank of Nigeria and Labour House areas of Central Business District, Abuja.

With regard to name, this building is called National Ecumenical Center. However, it is no uncommon to hear people -from time to time- refer to it as National Christian Center. Yet the reason for this is no far fetched. First, it was established to be a central ground for all Christians in Nigeria to converge, converse and have conferences when necessary.... Of course, these are worthy causes and a noble idea, yet I still believe there is a large room for improvement, in order for the Nigerian Christians to take maximum advantage of the opportunities presented by this project. So far, many Christian groups and denominations have been making use of this place for various purposes as planned. For instance, the Church of Nigeria, the Anglican Communion along with others have had annual programs in this place for several years now. One of such programs I have seen and heard about is...

Athough we weren't granted entry or permission to take pictures the first evening we visited. I am still happy with the tour we got the next day. So if you would like to visit, the appropriate procedure would be either to write the management a letter or show up between 10.00 to 16.00 on workdays and request to speak to administration.

The center is built to accomodate all denominations. So it's not catholic, anglican or penticostal, it caters for all under the christian faith therefore you do not see any of the symbols that would usually indicate a churche's denomination at the altar.

In the glass windows you however find some religious symbols. A unique piece in the church is the roating altar floor that allows the speaker/preacher face the every one in the congregation every...

NATIONAL ECUMENICAL CENTER

I’ve been longing to visit here for the longest time and I was so excited when I finally did.

LOCATION Central Business District, Independence Avenue Abuja (Google map is accurate)

Note: The centre is an inter-denominational church, it can be rented for events like weddings for a fee. • Due to pandemic restrictions you may be limited to specific areas when touring the center. • The interior is under construction/renovation so be careful not to touch or move items if you go inside to pray. • You may need to state you reasons for visitation and sign in and out. • Parking may be tricky as their lot is usually full.

Would you like to visit or have you...

Also known as National Christian Centre, the National Ecumenical Centre is one of the largest Christian centres in Abuja. The centre displays remarkable work of architecture and excellent work of craftsmanship. The striking church edifice represents the neogothic style of work. Visitors to the centre can see the pivotal arches leading to the altar. The altar is placed in the central point in the church and devotees can complete a rotation in about just 10 minutes. The right wing of the church has a pipe organ, from where the church choir sings, during the mass services
