We went on the Loen Lake and Kjendal Fjord trip first. The Olden adventures tent was easy to find, straight off the ship. The directions for the bus could have been clearer. We were off the ship at 9.00am and, onve we'd shown our booking, were told 'white or red bus at the end' trouble is, there were loads of white buses going to various places. Anyway, we eventually found someone who told us to come back at 9.40am (as the trip was 10am). Things had calmed down alot by then too because most people wanted to go to the Skylift early. 2 buses took us to board the boat. Stunning scenery surrounding a smooth watered lake and a lovely relaxing boat ride. Our guide, Patrick, was very knowledgeable and funny, making the experience even more enjoyable. We were then dropped off for the short walk to base of the glacier. Very impressive view and such tranquil surroundings. Back to the cafe cabin at the boat drop off for some delicious Norwegian waffles with sour cream and homemade jam - wow, so tasty (I had 3!). Then another relaxing boat journey back. I had also opted for the Sky Lift in the afternoon so the bus will drop you there of that's you're choice. We arrived about 2.30pm I think. I was lucky - no queue at all just had to wait for the next gondola, which was already on it's way (this was 16th September). I was blown away by the views at the top. You can pick up a map that shows several marked walkways. I choae to follow a 5km round trip one just to make sure I was back to the cruise ship in time but you could spend hours up there if you went in the morning. No queue to gwt down for me either then the shuttle bus (included in your ticket) back to the ship. Very easy. I would definitely recommend both these trips - well...
Read moreWe had a fantastic excursion to the Briksdal Glacier by troll car last month. Booked online before we left the UK for our cruise. Prices much better than organising through the cruise company. Easy to cancel - we had also booked the Sky Lift but as the weather forecast was poor we whatsapped Olden Adventure and got an instant refund to our bank account (refunds up to 24 hours before). Staff were waiting for us as we disembarked and it was very easy to pick our tickets and instructions for the bus pick up point (a 2 minute walk up the road).
The weather was very wet and as we got on the double decker bus at the port everyone was very quiet and soggy but we had a wonderful ride through the valley to the bottom of the glacier, then we took the troll cars up, 7 to a car with a staff member driving. It was SO much fun, instantly everyone's mood was lifted with the fun of the drive and the incredible scenery, the rain was forgotten! It was a 10-15 min easy walk to the glacier from the drop off point (not wheelchair friendly) then it was back to the troll cars for the descent and back to the bus for the return journey.
The driver steered us effortlessly through the tiny roads, we felt very safe in his capable hands, and there was a guide up front giving a commentary which everyone could hear clearly and easily through the sound system. She was really interesting to listen to and really informative. We really enjoyed our trip and would thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting Olden - fantastic, friendly, reliable company. Can't wait for our next Norwegian cruise so we can book another excursion for...
Read moreWe booked two shuttles with Olden Adventure. We did the morning shuttle to Birksdal Glacier. Excellent. Entertaining driver. Plenty of time to walk up and back to the glacier, stop at the gift shop, grab a bite to eat etc. In the afternoon we used the Loen Skylift shuttle. The shuttle was great, easy to use and conventient and the Skylift itself was great. We ran into a problem with the timing. We hopped on the shuttle at 1:30. Arrived at the Skylift and then had a 30-40 minute wait to go up the lift. No problem. Plenty of time to look around and get back to our ship for 4:30, right? Wrong! We spent a few minutes looking around on the right side and watching a person parasailing. We then wanted to see how long the line was to go back down. It was huge! We ended up waiting in line to go back down for 90 minutes! On an unseasonably warm day. We were getting so nervous since we had booked this privately. Luckily Olden was on top of it and the shuttles were running fast and furious to get us all back. We made it back to our ship at 4:23 which was way too close for comfort. My advice is to do the Skylift in the morning and not the afternoon. Also, ask what the wait times are to come back down before you go up if you have time constraints. In fact, I think there should be a sign at the bottom that tells you how long the current wait is to come back. The views are spectacular but the stress of waiting to go back down dampened the experience. Overall, excellent...
