We went to Jellyfish Lake and to be honest, although we did not have the greatest expectations given the recent recovery following a die-off event a couple years back, there were quite a lot of both the golden jellyfish and the moon jellies and many many little babies coming along as well so we really loved it. There were certain spots in the lake where the jellyfish were congregating so I would recommend a good swim around and definitely snorkel out near the pontoon in the middle of the lake because we found heaps more there in large swarms. I found the walk over the small rise from the boat a bit arduous because the steps were really tall and as I am quite short, I had to sort of climb up them quite a bit (bit weird because the locals don't seem particularly tall LOL). I would recommend taking your time for the walk in both directions. There is a rope to hold in some spots but as it was a wet when we went there were a few slippery parts and we were wearing our dive booties. One of the guys with us was barefoot and had a bit of a ski-session in the mud for a faster descent - was not hurt other than his pride and one butt cheek...
Read moreMindblowing and unique. Snorkeling with thousands of jellyfish --which have conveniently lost their ability to sting over millions of years of evolution within this enclosed saltwater lake--is an experience you won't soon forget. Highly recommended to check this out on any trip to Palau. The number of tourists/visitors to the lake is regulated, so it's never crowded, and there are many tour packages available that include snorkeling in other (equally magical and pristine) spots as well. Palau has some of the best snorkeling in the world! "Jellyfish Lake" is one of a kind. Not...
Read moreThis one of the very unique experiences to be found in Palau. As a native of Palau I have visited this lake many times over the years. It used to be very difficult to get to because of the very treacherous climb involved. Now it has a proper dock and stairs making it much easier. Our government has done a very good job at controlling the number of visitors which helps preserve the jellyfish. Since the jellyfish are very delicate, they get damaged from normal swimming activity. If you do happen to find your way to Palau, this is an activity absolutely not...
