Amazing hike going through many different climate zones. It's challenging and by the end I thought my toes were going to fall off. I was physically prepared but not prepared for the altitude changes; it slowed us down a lot and made it necessary to stop at almost every switchback or every few minutes while ascending the pass. It took maybe 4 hours to reach the pass from Soraypampa town. You absolutely need to start early in the day as that is when the sky is clearest and when you'll have the best views (at least during late November during rainy season). I'd also recommend bringing a hat and gloves. Even going during summer it was freezing at night and during the hike. This was especially helpful while it rained and kept us warmer. The hike down to Chaulley and to the hidroelectrica is beautiful going through the dense rainforest. You should absolutely use hiking boots as the trail is so rocky it would provide no support to your feet and you'd feel every rock as you walk otherwise.

There are some small random shops along the way but do not depend upon these. There was a small hut we found free gatorade on the ascent to the pass. Otherwise, we didn't find another food/drink location until Chaullely. There were others in all the small towns we passed after this point.

Important to note, the only way into Aguas Calientes is by walking or train. To get back to Cusco after AC, you'll likely need to pay to take the train to Ollantaytambo and then either bus or taxi back to Cusco. The train is expensive. Depending on timing but between $50-$90/one-way and about 40-50 soles to Cusco.

Hike was a 5/5 Difficulty was a...

I did several day trips while staying in Cusco and this was by far my favorite spot ! It was not easy to reach the lake ! It looks pretty close when you see it from afar but it took me around 1h to reach the top. Oh well you can also pay for the horses to take you there if you don’t want to sweet too much :) Now the view was just breathtaking ! The water was so clear with rich blue and green color. There were some trekking trails surrounding it and some flowers as well. The ice peak behind it makes the picture so unique and picturesque ! Make sure to climb the little trail at the right hand side of the lake when you visit...

✨places in Peru that look like another planet ✨ The landscape in Peru is unreal and there’s so much to see, see below for tips on visiting these places and save for your next trip to Peru! 👉 Humantay Lake: this beautiful lake sits at 13,700 ft (4,200 meters) and can be done as a day trip from Cusco! 👉 Rainbow mountain: this mountain was ice covered until 2015 (thanks global warming) and sits at 17,000 feet (5,200 meters). This can also be done as a day trip from Cusco! Pro tip: don’t visit until you’ve acclimated in Cusco for at least 48 hours 👉 Machu Picchu: No visit to Peru is complete without a visit to Machu Picchu. There are several ways to see it: either by trek or bus, either way it’s a must! 👉 Huacachina: this oasis in the desert is on the Peruvian coast! Be sure to also visit the nearby vineyards 👉 Maras Salt Mines: Near Cusco, these salt mines are owned by local communities and absolutely stunning! 👉 Salkantay: this mountain is insanely beautiful! If you’re looking for a challenge you can hike the Salkantay trek that takes you over the mountain to Machu Picchu. It’s 5 days in total and you see a variety of landscapes! 👉 Moray: These Incan ruins were once used for experimental farming over 509 years ago! . . . . . #girlswhotravel #peru🇵🇪 #perutravel #perutips #perutrip #visitperu #travelgirl #girltraveler #girltravellife #femaletraveler #solofemaletraveler #travelgirlsgo #womentravel #womentravelers #womentravelsolo #girlstraveldiary
