Topping the list of Siquijor’s many treasures are its centuries-old Catholic churches. Siquijor became the first parish to be established on the island and was under the administration of the diocese of Cebu. It is known that the St. Francis of Assisi church was the sole Catholic Church on the island until the middle of the 19th century. Positioned to welcome today’s travelers arriving via the Siquijor Pier, the St. Francis of Assisi church has stood devoutly for centuries since being built by Spaniards. This church is small by any standard but its smallness doesn't diminish its value, particularly for the Siquijornons who have been touched one way or another by...

Two tower are located on the right side of the complex(a sigle storey one with a grotto at the top, and a four tier belltower). The convent can be found across the street within a school ground. It is commendable that the church manage to preserve its ancient look. All other church within the island with an exception of the Lazi church, somehow expand / rebuilt their churches with modern designs and construction materials, thus loosing their authenticity and character. But still, modern additions can be found within the church's transcept ..forming a circular structure within the crucifix crossing. Recently the church floors are replaced with cheap motel...
