The All Saints' Church on Mamayev Kurgan was built not very long ago, to compliment The Motherland Calls and The Hall of Military Glory. It is part of Mamayev Kurgan Memorial being the monument to all soldiers that perished in the Battle of Stalingrad.
It is a very beautiful place and a must-visit if you have the chance to visit Volgograd.
The concept of this church first turned up in 1993, in the year of the 50th anniversary of the Battle. When the idea of construction of the church received the blessing of Patriarch Alexy II in 1995, they chose the place that seemed the most appropriate for it, near the mass grave, some two hundred metres away from the memorial.
The works having started in October 2000, on May 9, 2002 the builders laid the corner stone of the All Saints' Church in Volgograd and finished the construction in September 2004. The height of the structure is 33 m, and its domes can be seen from the most remote parts of the city.
