I'm shocked - like actually shocked beyond words at how much OG deserves 5-stars. Literally the "OG" household name amongst the older generation, I accompanied family there today and was pleasantly surprised at the service rendered by almost all the staff - they were genuinely willing to assist, and even if the items they were promoting to you were not suitable due to whatsoever reasons you may have, they would still put on such a positive and understanding attitude, with not a single sour face in sight. It's literally a luxury shopping experience just for this reason alone, and yes, I would actually compare their services to the top luxury brands nestled in Orchard or Marina Bay Sands. Having visited most of the other departmental stores in SG (and a few others earlier in the same day as well), the stark difference in attitude was a strong factor for me to make a purchase as it was such a comfortable, welcoming and judgement-free environment to be in. A shopping haven for old people only? No way!
They were willing to provide same-day alterations for an item my family was interested in, explained the very confusing membership in detail to me, offered unique clothing pieces not found anywhere else in the country, and even products which were lower in price as compared to ALL other brick-and-motar retailers & almost ALL online sites. It may have been a little painful to drop a significant amount of money there, but it was worth every penny.
Anyways, I'd usually be quite salty about how the t&cs of the membership scheme feels like an attempt to make their elderly customers drop money like nobody's business on the regular, but I honestly got some pretty good deals for some necessities there so I'll let that slide. Big time.
If anyone in the OG team reads this though, a small feedback would be to make the aisles between clothing sections just a bit wider so wheelchairs are more accessible (toilets were a bit of a tight space too), but overall the staff and security were really on-the-ball with assisting when they see customers in the wheelchair, to the extent of guiding you towards the proper exits / opening the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhile OG Albert isn't too different from your average departmental store, it has a long history and strategic placement in the Rochor area, and so it sees somewhat higher traffic than other similar anchor departmental store tenants found in malls. Moreover, it is not uncommon to see its makeshift/mobile roller retail stands and storage units sprawling all over and outside their main entrance to grab the attention of any passerby with making impulse buys.
It is prominent as a natural result of being located in the vicinity of many amenities, something any shopper would appreciate. For one, Albert Centre Market, a humble food establishment and popular local haunt patronised by many for its affordable and palatable food fare, just lies across OG Albert. Do note that it is being renovated at the time of this review before reopening at the start of July 17. There are also independent eateries offering delectable treats ranging from vegetarian stir-fries and Hakka thunder rice (rice topped with a medley of vegetables and peanuts, soaked and taken with a peppermint broth), to a nook selling Taiwan delicacies across it. I can imagine families and casual shoppers heading down to OG Albert for some window shopping after having their meals nearby or after visiting Sim Lim Square, an electronics haven known for the co-existence of shady stores and stores which offer some really sweet deals.
The variety of goods offered by OG is decent, for you can find clothes, shoes, nutritional and beauty products, homeware, and ornaments here. Novelty isn't their forte, but if you're looking for run-of-the-mill products at reasonable prices, this place can't go wrong. If you spend $75 during their OG Anniversary Sale in August, you will be awarded with a free membership that entitles you to 10% rebate on non-discounted...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy parents went to purchase a shaver from your place as my parents are not English educated they donāt know how to read English. As the shelves have 2 price tag 1 is for the electric toothbrush 1 is for the electric shaver. So they unknowingly thought the price of $170+ is for the shaver. So they went ahead and brought it over to the cashier and attempt to make a purchase. But however after the cashier scanned the barcode of the shaver it was $500+ so my parents wanted to cancel the purchase but the cashier told my parents after scanning they canāt cancel it. So itās like a force to buy ? I felt itās abit unfair for them Iāve been in retail line before and I know pos have this function of voiding the transaction or canceling it away even before cashing out. I wonder how many other elderly have been forced to purchase in this kind of immoral way. Please advise your parents who are not English educated to avoid this place.
Iām glad you did an investigation after reviews being made. Thatās a good thing. But what Pisses me off even more is that are you trying to say my parents lied to me about your cashier saying itās unable to void ? Hahahaha. What a joke. I somehow really pity those elderly who are gonna walk in to your shop and get into such immoral sales method. My parents are well to do so they donāt really mind and mentioned to me the shaver is good but as a son of them I feel unfair that they got treated this way. What if those elderly that comes from not so well to do families ? I somehow really gonna pity them. But definitely I will still advise everyone to really ask their parents who are not English educated to avoid OG. Thanks for your reply. Wish you all the best. May...
