Really rewarding once you get to Devil's Peak. The views are second to none up there and it's not crowded so you can choose a rock to sit on and enjoy the view in perfect peace.
However... you will work!!! The path has loose stones and is quite demanding. We made the fatal mistake of doing it during the winter and I swear I nearly died of the cold. Just after Silverstream waterfall, a chilling and wild wind engulfs a section of the trail. This area is like the Bermuda Triangle of the trail. It's as if the more you push to get to the safety of mountains that break the wind, the more you get sucked into it. It's brutal!!!
There is also a small water stream that runs through this particular section of the trail in the winter so wear waterproof shoes if you can.
My fingers turned blue from the cold, making it more difficult to go up several inclinations that require the use of hands for balance.
I could only thaw once I got to Devil's Peak and soaked up as much sun as I could to power me up for the hike back.
If you're just an ordinary, casual hiker do not go during winter. It will put flames to your backside, boet! Stick to Platteklip Gorge or park it for the warmer months. If, however, you're a seasoned trail runner, you should be able to generate enough heat from the running to counter the winter...
Read moreI love adventure and beautiful scenery. Devil's peak mountain hiking trail definitely offers this. It's not a easy mountain to climb for a biginner considering the lose rocks on the steep trail from the bottom on your way up but it's definitely worth it. The beautiful Cape Town stadium, Robbin Island, and some other mountain trails are easily spotted from the top of Devil's peak. This is definitely a mountain you'd want...
Read moreStarting at the Table Mountain Cableway Lower Station, it’s a 3 hour hike up to the summit of Devil’s Peak. BONUS is the King Protea on top. Ascending from the saddle, it’s not an easy hike, tread carefully on the loose rocks and sandy trail. You are exposed all the time so remember your cap and plenty of water. Highly rewarding with stunning 360 degree vistas of Cape Town and the Cape Flats. Definitely worth visiting at...
