At the ER I presented for the 4th time with severe head pain after falling backwards into a metal garage set of drawers cutting open my skull. I did not go to the ER immediately after falling as I hoped it would just heal, and be the end of that. However on the first day after the fall, my husband took me to ER at 2 am in the morning, because I had severe head pain. The ER doctor did NOT even look at my head, gave me something like nothing, as it didn’t help the pain at all. I had a CT scan, which showed my skull was not fractured but there was a hematoma. I went home. Two days later I was back at the ER almost delirious with pain. The ER doctor this time had a little bit empathy, I had another CT scan, showing the hematoma was much larger. She put a drip into my hand, which is difficult as I have no veins. But eventually it went in. I was given pain medication through a drip, and it did somewhat help. Better than before. However the pain in my head persevered, I was not given an anti biotic, and I now had pus and a bad infection in the cuts in my head. My husband helped me get rid of a lot of the pus, by washing my hair in Savlon and breaking the scab. There was pus running out everywhere. I was traumatized by the pain, and I really thought I was going to die. Back to ER, I cannot remember a lot of it, but I had taken a Synaleve pill for the pain in the morning. Then that afternoon at ER the ignorant ER doctor asked me if I was allergic to any medication. I said yes, I cannot take ANTI INFLAMMATORY medication, I bleed under my skin. Now I get told, you’re not allergic to anti inflammatory medication as Synaleve has Ibuprofen in it. I KNEW IT DID NOT. She didn’t study too hard at Pharmacology, as she could have killed me with giving me Rayzor. Synaleve has no anti inflams. So, whoever the DOCTOR in ER was on the 26th May, go back to med school, and study a little harder, you have no idea the damage you could have done. I walked out of the ER and went home, getting an appointment with Dr Steph Fourie. I told him all the gruesome truths, and he shook his head in disbelief. Agreeing with me that the little cutie doll doctor in ER yesterday indeed lacked the knowledge of what different drugs do, what’s in them, and what is NOT in them. She can google Synaleve, and read that it DOES NOT CONTAIN AN ANTI INFLAMMATORY. How about an apology from whoever gives the hospital these ER so called doctors a job. How about the Sunward Park Hospital MATRON, digging into this and giving me an apology.
Dr Steph Fourie gave me an anti biotic, which ER somehow forgot to. He gave me pain pills to get rid of the terrible headache I had. One goes to ER hoping to get an empathetic diagnosis, with facts, and not ill conceived ideas of what is in a certain drug. So, whoever you are Dr Z working in ER on the 26th May, you’re lucky I didn’t get a BAD REACTION from your Rayzor. I would have liked to have cut your throat with it. A sincere apology would also be appreciated.
Thank you Dr Steph Fourie, and no thank you to...
Read moreI recently had a distressing experience at the casualty department of this hospital, which left me extremely disappointed. Upon arrival, there was no one at the reception, and I had to wait for about 10 minutes before anyone showed up. My daughter had sustained a head injury, and in such an urgent situation, this delay was unacceptable. When the receptionist finally returned, she smelled heavily of cigarettes, which was unprofessional and off-putting, especially in a healthcare environment.
We then waited for over two hours before a doctor attended to us. This is simply disgusting service for a hospital that is supposed to prioritize urgent care. To make matters worse, I was charged a R2600 consultation fee, even though my daughter was later admitted. This fee should not have been applied, and it feels like an unnecessary, unjustified charge.
Our disappointment continued in the Pediatric Ward. The food served was not only unappetizing but smelly. The trays used to serve the food had a damp, unpleasant odor, which is completely unhygienic and far below acceptable standards.
This hospital is a disgrace to the Netcare name. It cannot be compared to other Netcare facilities, such as Linksfield, which consistently offer excellent service and maintain high standards. The experience we had here was far from what we expected and is not something we would want to go through again. I strongly urge management to take immediate action to improve the quality of service and facilities, as this is not what one expects from a hospital associated with a reputable healthcare group...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars I would. Worst hospital ever. We arrived at the emergency department after my son had a motorcycle accident on 13/05/2024. It took them over an hour and a half to open a file for us. Patients that arrived well over two hours after us got seen before us. For example a lady with her daughter that sprained her ankle at school got seen before my son . No working system. Another 3 hours later and still no dr. When I complained, the staff were laughing and speaking in their native language. I dont even want to know what they said about me. When we eventually saw a dr, I asked the dr if they were at least going to clean my son's wounds and he said no he would be fine. I physically had to scrub his wounds the evening to remove the pieces of tar still stuck to his wounds on his back and elbows. The emergency department is dirty. Staff slow, lazy and unprofessional. An absolute disgrace for a private hospital. What is going on Sunward Park Hospital? Where did the service go? Where did caring for your patients go? Clearly a hospital running into the ground. I have never in my life experienced this kind of service. I will never go to Sunward Park Hospital again. You could be sitting there bleeding out and they wont care. Clearly staff that does not want to be there and are just there for...
