Je suis restée à Daktari en tant que volontaire pendant deux mois. L’association a une belle mission : sensibiliser les enfants locaux à des thématiques cruciales (environnement, changement climatique, importance des animaux,...), souvent méconnues d’eux. Il y a aussi le Job Hunting Program, qui accompagne les jeunes adultes de 18 à 25 ans dans la rédaction de CV et lettres de motivation, pour améliorer leurs chances d’insertion professionnelle. En revanche, une présence un peu plus régulière des fondateurs ou de la direction pour les enfants, pendant la semaine, notamment lors leur arrivée et lors de la cérémonie de fin de semaine, permettrait de renforcer le lien et d’offrir un accueil encore plus chaleureux. L’expérience a été enrichissante : soins aux animaux (matin et soir, chaque jour de la semaine), sensibilisation des enfants à l’environnement. L’équipe est globalement accueillante et bienveillante, s'assurant que tout se passe bien. Les repas sont bons (mercii Isaac) malgré que parfois limités en quantités et très végétariens et les chalets confortables. Les excursions, bien qu’un peu coûteuses, sont bien organisées et tout compris, ce qui facilite la participation. Nous avons pu également voir des animaux sauvages en dehors du camp. Merci à toute l’équipe pour cette expérience précieuse et humaine.

I came to DAKTARI as a long-term volunteer in the position of marketing manager, and I’m leaving this place completely transformed and grateful for everything I got to experience. I was lucky enough to live a truly unique adventure, both human and professional, surrounded by an incredibly warm, caring and open-minded team.

Beyond the work and the development of my skills, I shared real moments of life, laughter, discoveries and mutual support. I’m leaving DAKTARI with unforgettable memories, friends from all over the world, and people I truly enjoyed spending time with.

Meeting the children, the local people, the animals, enjoying the stunning views and sunsets, going on all the excursions, and above all, bonding with my new friends the buffalos — each of these moments was magical, and I got to share them with amazing people.

A huge thank you to Michèle, Ian and Camilla for giving me the chance to live this adventure for several months and for trusting me in this role. I’m also so grateful to all the staff members — each one of them is wonderful, and I loved all the laughs and great moments we shared. And of course, thank you to all the volunteers I met along the way — each of you plays such a big part in making this experience the best it can be for everyone.

If I could give just one piece of advice to anyone considering volunteering and DAKTARI: don’t hesitate, reach out to them! No matter how long you stay, you will live a real moment of life surrounded by amazing people.

I stayed at Daktari Bush School & Wildlife Orphanage from May 31, 2025 to July 26, 2025 with 2 friends.

I loved my stay, particularly: taking care of the animals teaching local children about the importance of the environment & animals and other subjects meeting people from all over the world The association made sure we felt welcomed and included. Daktari also planned excursions for us to discover the Blyde Canyon and the beautiful animals of South Africa.

My volunteering experience with the Daktari Bush School and Wildlife Orphanage has been very rewarding. I have developed many skills working alongside the children as a teacher and gained a great deal of knowledge about the animals in the refuge. The atmosphere at the camp is excellent, the facilities are top quality and the scenery is incredible. The founders of the association and the teams on site did a fantastic job, which enabled me to experience an unforgettable adventure.
