The grand Victorian-era architecture, complete with its arched windows, wooden beams, and intricate details, exudes a timeless charm. Informative displays showcase the station's rich history, dating back to the early 19th century, adding another layer to the experience.

Breathtaking Views:

Nanuoya's true beauty lies in its location. Nestled amidst emerald hills and tea plantations, the station offers breathtaking panoramic views that leave you speechless. Witnessing the iconic blue train snake its way through the landscape is a sight to behold, making it a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts.

A Gateway to Adventure:

Nanuoya serves as a gateway to several popular tourist destinations. Hop on the train to reach Haputale, Ella, or Bandarawela, each offering unique experiences and stunning scenery. The station also provides convenient access to nearby attractions like Demodara Nine Arch Bridge and Devon Falls, making it a valuable starting point for exploring the region.

Room for Improvement:

While the overall experience is charming, there are a few areas for improvement. The limited amenities, such as restrooms and food options, can be inconvenient for extended visits. Additionally, the lack of proper signage and information boards for tourists can be confusing for first-time visitors.

A Must-Visit for Train Lovers:

Despite minor drawbacks, Nanuoya Railway Station remains a must-visit for train enthusiasts and anyone seeking a glimpse into Sri Lanka's colonial past. The enchanting atmosphere, breathtaking views, and convenient location make it a worthwhile stop on your journey through the Central Highlands. Nanu-Oya Railway station is the closest railway station to Nuwara Eliya city/town. So, many foreigners use this station to do the famous train ride maily from Nanu-Oya to Ella. And also many foreigners use this to other direction too, to Kandy and some do the train ride to Colombo.

It is around 9km from Nuwara Eliya city to Nanu-Oya station. This will take around 20min to drive from Nuwara Eliya to Nanu-Oya station by a car or tuck-tuck.

The Nanu Oya railway station is the 63rd station on the Main Nanu-Oya station is around 207 km away from Colombo. All trains coming to Badulla direction is stopping this station as this is one of main railway station on this line.

As many foreigners use this station, it is renovated and having good toilet facilities. Average canteen is there. During the train arriving times, this station is crowded, especially for 12:45 noon time train (From Nanu-Oya to Ella train "Podi Menike") and for other train also crowded.

Elevation at Nanu-Oya station is around 1615m from sea level.

I was impressed with the place. The station boasts a magnificent view that is sure to leave you breathless. The area is clean and well-maintained, which adds to the overall charm of the place. The station also has a touch of heritage, which adds to its beauty.

⚠️ However, there was one major downside to my visit. I encountered numerous tuk-tuk drivers who were trying to overcharge for a ride to Nuwara Eliya town. This was a bit of a nuisance, and it detracted from the overall experience. Therefore, if you're planning to take a tuk-tuk ride from the station, be aware of the overcharging and negotiate accordingly. 🛺🛺

Despite this, the railway station is still worth a visit, especially if you're a fan of scenic views and historical architecture. The management could, however, work on ensuring that visitors are not taken advantage of by unscrupulous tuk-tuk drivers.
