As an American living in Sweden, I am happy to have this store here now. I had never been there before when living in the States, but since it seemed like an opportunity to acquire items that aren't typically available in Sweden, I decided to give it a try.
As far as deals go, I'd say it's about 50/50. I walked around with a calculator, comparing prices to what we could get at ICA or COOP. We got a good deal on a huge bag of good-quality pasta and a huge bag of lentils. A lot of items were pretty much the same price as in other markets here, but it really just depends on what you like to eat. For some, it may not be worth it, and for others, it's great. I should mention that the price of toilet paper was average, as was the price of eggs and butter.
On the other hand, they do, in fact, carry many items that I have never seen or that are rarely found in other stores in Stockholm. There are lots of things I recognize from the US, and I don't mean the garbage that you will find in the typical American section at your local grocery store or even the novelty American shops in town. Those are terrible representations of the American market. Kind of like going to one of those shops in Gamla Stan where they sell nothing but helmets with horns and dalahäst made in China and calling it authentically Swedish. Costco is closer to the American experience.
Anyway, I think it is worth the price of the membership to have access to a lot of different products. It can also be convenient if you like to buy in bulk, say for a large family, if you only want to shop once a month, or if you are a prepper.
They have a lot of fresh prepared food to choose from, too, so if you need to stop on your way to a get-together or want to pick up something quick for a picnic, there are lots of options.
Lots of people commented about short expiration dates, but I haven't found that to be a problem yet, except with the eggs. Again, I think it depends on what you like to eat. Lots of things had long dates.
Also, not every single thing is sold in bulk. Some things were in twos, or just a large size, and many things were in singles—more than I expected.
One other thing I'd like to mention is that the carts are huge, and it's usually crowded. The aisles are large, so it's not too much of a problem; just be prepared for the occasional traffic jam.
I recommend Costco, but it's definitely not for everybody. You are likely to find something new every time you go, partly because the place is enormous but also because they are constantly cycling different products in and out.
Oh, and the pizza by the slice is the perfect way to end the trip. It's a generous size at a decent price, and it's delicious.
Give it a try; you can get a refund on your membership if you hate it!
Edit: I forgot to mention they also have so much more than food there. A little bit of everything, big and small, from electronics (televisions, computers, appliances) to outdoor furniture. You can even buy a canoe!
In the clothing section they had some well known brands like Levis, Columbia, North Face, Fjäll Raven, and Champion. Mostly sportswear, socks, and underwear, but a few other random things also.
Update 2025: I am still loving this store. I recently had a birthday so I decided to try one of their cakes that look more like an American style cake. They usually have ones like that with the pink flowers that say "Happy Birthday." Reminds me of my childhood. Unfortunately for me, this time they only had a few that said "Grattis" that had been squished a bit, and a few blank ones.
The flavor of the cake is not clear on the package, so I assumed it was vanilla with vanilla frosting, since the frosting was white. (On the way home I did look a little closer at the ingredients list and noticed jordgubbsylt-I may have misspelled that) The Swedes could not resist adding some jam and sweet cream in the middle instead of frosting! It did, however, still have a nice thick portion of cake rather than the thinner layers you will find in typical Swedish cakes. It was very...
Read moreWe were thrilled when Costco Arninge first opened in 2022. My husband and I became instant regulars—visiting weekly (sometimes more often), excited to stock up on quality goods with great value. Unfortunately, what began as a fantastic store has taken a significant turn for the worse over the past 6–9 months, and we’re now seriously considering canceling our membership.
The most glaring issue is the increasingly poor attitude of the staff. We’ve encountered multiple situations where their behavior was not only unprofessional, but outright rude. It really feels like they simply don’t care anymore.
One frustrating example: I forgot my payment card during a visit, so my husband offered to pay. But since I had scanned my membership card, the cashier refused to let him complete the purchase—even though we live together, have a shared membership, and our child was standing right next to us. My husband even showed his own membership card, but we were told the entire transaction had to be canceled and re-scanned from scratch under his account. That meant a major delay, long line behind us, and unnecessary hassle for everyone.
Another instance: we were quickly eating a pizza slice while standing (after having sat for hours earlier that day), and one of the staff members rudely told us it was “strange” to want to eat standing up and demanded we sit at a table. This was before the standing tables were installed, and frankly their tone was completely uncalled for.
A third incident involved the receipt checker who became visibly annoyed and passive-aggressive when one item—placed securely in our child’s stroller—wasn’t immediately visible. No grace, no friendly tone, just unnecessary attitude over the most minor thing.
But the worst we’ve witnessed was last week: a female worker physically moved a child near the checkout lanes without speaking to him or asking the parents. She literally grabbed and moved someone else’s child because he was “in her way.” If that had been our child, there would have been serious repercussions. To us, this crossed the line—completely unacceptable.
Beyond staff behavior, the store itself has also dropped in quality: Several of our favorite items have vanished from the shelves. The bakery section now looks unappetizing and feels neglected. The freshly prepared food area has fewer options and declining quality. On multiple occasions we’ve received spoiled products and even found flies in baked goods.
Lastly, the general store experience has gotten unpleasant. Many customers behave with little awareness, common courtesy, or basic manners. Shopping here has started to feel like navigating a chaotic warehouse lacking any respect for shared space.
We truly hope management steps in to make big improvements soon. We’ve shopped at Costco locations in the U.S. and know firsthand how well things can be run—professional staff, clean food areas, and an overall smoother experience.
If nothing changes in the near future, we’ll have to seriously question whether our membership is still worth it. A once-great store has sadly...
Read moreSweden 🇸🇪 Täby - wholesale shopping My review should be weighted appropriately as a diehard costco fan. There are a lot of great costco staple products at Sweden's first Costco but below are a few key items missing. I'm hoping that the buyers or Ian see this review and I can update it soon.
Loved seeing the great deals on clothing and a few of the prepared food options from home 🇺🇸
here were a few items I miss that haven't yet been tested at this location but deserve a good look & a try.
Missing In Action Kirkland Organic OatMilk - an absolute staple premium product that costco offers at a steal price point. This rich, creamy, barista dream OatMilk was missing on the costco floor & actually has never debuted at Sweden's Costco. Give the people access to this delicious treat! Give the other brand a run for its money... doubtful that the other non-kirkland brand can compete with the quality of this 'organic' premium product.
Kirkland Organic RAW whole cashews - another brain-boggler and missing in action. Strange because no company can compete with the price point & movement of these raw delicious seeds (they aren't nuts). As a data scientist (moonlighting as a BizA here) , I actually looked and was shocked to see that these delicious seeds are selling like crazy outside of Sweden...moreover you can't find organic raw cashews easily in Sweden. Why compete against yourself here. Organic Cashew seeds are the raw ingredients for many cashew-based recipes including cashewmilk! Rather than 2-3 different types of fancy salted and unsalted roasted cashews, why not swap one out for these delicious raw cashew seeds. I'm sure it won't set you back! I'm sure you'll thank me later for this free hot-tip! 😅
More organic Kirkland products in general. I was missing the organic lemon juice from Italy 🇮🇹 and unclear on why lime and lemon juice from concentrate was on the floor with such good options for real squeezed juice....
Solid and developing coffee options with more organic options than previously. In addition, happy to see that if I ship my car here, tire service won't skip a beat.
I look forward to more shopping...
