THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN!!! One of the main things I made sure to schedule during my first-ever trip to Europe was this toboggan run. Thankfully, Mother Nature was kind and gave us a beautiful day to experience it. We went on a Monday right when they opened, and there was hardly anyone there. We didn't have to wait at all to ride. Plus, being "early birds," we got the 2-for-1 deal, so we got to ride twice!
The view from the restaurant patio is divine, too. Be sure to plan some time to chill there with a couple beers at the very least. And keep any eye out for their adorable little teddy bear surprise!
One thing I should mention - they're pretty strict about not wanting people to go down the ride with their handbags, backpacks, etc. If you must take something like that up with you, just know that they will take your bag and put it on a chairlift to meet you at the bottom after your toboggan run, so ask them to do that if you must.
Oh, and one more thing - they won't let you film your ride with your camera or phone in your hand, and they shouldn't - you need both hands to control the braking levers. You're nearly guaranteed to lose anything you're holding in your hands. That said, I brought a very secure chest harness for my camera and they were fine with that. If you feel the need to film your experience, just make sure you can do so with your hands free. Make sure it's secure though. If you lose it, it's on you, not them!
All in all, totally...
Read moreThis was on our bucket list for our family Europe backpacking trip, and we did not regret it! We purchased tickets in advance online, which helped take all the guesswork and worry out of it. We bought a ropes course package which allowed for doing two of the three courses with different levels of difficulty. We also bought the package that includes the chairlift, coaster ride and “meal of the day” at the restaurant.
The ropes course is good - not the best or longest we’ve experienced. The meal of the day was stroganoff with a side of noodles or fries, which worked well for everyone in the family. But the roller coaster is the highlight of this place. It’s so long and so fun. Just make sure you leave plenty of space between you and the person in front of you so you don’t get stuck behind someone going slowly - or don’t slow down those behind you!
Some people walk up the hill to the coaster, and I think it’s probably a fine hike. But I recommend the chairlift for the extra money. It’s a nice ride with great views which adds to the experience.
And for those who are visiting from afar - there isn’t much to do in Churwalden aside from Pradaschier. We stayed in Churwalden because this was the only activity we planned before taking the Bernina Express the next day, but if you’re planning to see some sites in the area I would recommend staying in Chur instead. It’s more expensive, but you’ll have more options in getting...
Read morePhotos don’t do this attraction justice! The chairlift is already thrilling, elevating you several stories off the ground, ascending quickly up an amazing green mountain landscape on all sides. You’ll hear the bells of livestock and the screams of toboggan riders as they pass beneath you.
Once at the top my toboggan operator gave me but one piece of advice (with a wink), “Here’s the hand brake. Don’t use it. It’s more fun.” It was an unforgettable ride!
I bought the ticket for 3 toboggan rides + 3 chairlifts, it was too thrilling to do only once.
Keep in mind they don’t allow backpacks on the toboggan. You can store it at the bottom of the run, or take one up with you and have them send it down on the chairlift.
My visit was in late September, and I was thankful I brought gloves and a beanie to keep warm on the rides up and down. Especially down!
If you take the bus from Chur, please note the northbound (return trip) bus stop is in the parking lot of the Migros building (it’s not on the...
