The beach is a bit of a misnomer. The spot is better described as a city park on the waterfront. While you can certainly take a dip in the lake, it isn't the dominant activity. Mostly, it's a family destination for some sun and barbecue.

If that's not your scene, or if you tend to find local parks and especially beaches overcrowded, you will likely want to forego visiting on the weekends. The place is much quieter during the week.
