Dulan Shan — Local services in Yanping

As a physical challenge, it’s good. Harder and longer trail than either Qixingshan or Datunshan. BUT if you are used to Yangmingshan or Keelung, you might be disappointed by the lack of good views at the top. The landscape below the mountain is stunning, but mostly invisible behind the thick cover of trees. I wish there was a staircase or platform built on top of the peak, or something to allow to look over the trees. It could be one of the best views in Taiwan, if it was visible. The way it is, the few views you get are on the first 1.5 km, no need to climb further to the top unless purely as a physical challenge. Though I saw a few wild monkeys, which was cool.

Note on transport: Do not try to get to the trail by bicycle, even with an electric bicycle it’s impossible, way too high. If you don’t have a car/scooter, hitchhiking is your best option (at least on a Sunday, it was easy to...

Navigate to 南郡界 bus stop, and you will see a small road leading to the trailhead. Follow the signs within. Just keep driving even if you think you are heading the wrong way; you will get there eventually.

If you are looking for spectacular views, look elsewhere. This 3.8km trail can get really foggy and muddy even when the weather outside is good. Lots of ups and downs as well.

That said, I had a lot of fun here. Definitely one of the more memorable ones I have done. Recommended activity to escape the summer heat. Budget 4-5...

都蘭山位於海岸山脈南端，標高海拔1190公尺，為南段最高峰，也是台灣小百岳之一。位於台東東河，地處於花東縱谷與台東海線之間。 是當地卑南族與阿美族的聖山，在日據時代因外型類似富士山，又被稱為台東富士山。 地理位址處於迎風面，常年雨量充沛，植被生長茂密，且山頭時常雲霧繚繞，為此山增添許多朦朧氣息。 登山口從台11線都蘭段，跟著都蘭山登山步道指引即可抵達，不過道路為水泥產業道路，部分路段較狹窄，會車時需小心慢行。 登山口上有座停車場，從平台上即可眺望都蘭海岸線。 此步道雖全長3.8KM，但中間大部分皆為林內路線，部分路段需拉繩，因此攀爬時間需仔細掌握。登山口有免費的登山杖可以借用，建議攜帶。另外因為林道較溼滑除要留意勿滑倒外，記得穿長褲以防止螞蝗攀附(吸血水蛭)。 到普悠瑪祭壇前路段平易近人，不用過於擔心。若有心挑戰者，可以繼續上爬，後端就是原始林道路線，地形較崎嶇，但其中一段可以欣賞到花東縱谷平原美景，另一側可以清楚眺望台東海岸線，十分值得。 沿途也可以欣賞許多熱帶原生種植物，更可以體驗先人生活的軌跡。 只是要留意因為步道處於樹林內，若下午一兩點未能到山頂，建議就準備折返，以免下午後步道昏暗較危險。 若喜歡登山的朋友有機會來...
