We spent a delightful morning at Thai Silk Village in San Kamphaeng, just a short drive from Chiang Mai. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the vibrant colors and exquisite silk displays. The place feels authentic and deeply rooted in Thai craftsmanship.
We started with a silk production tour, which included seeing live silkworms, thread-spinning, dyeing, and traditional weaving techniques. Watching the process in person gave us a new appreciation for how much care and time goes into a single piece of silk fabric. The artisans were happy to explain each step and welcomed us to observe closely.
After the tour, we explored the large showroom filled with scarves, clothes, bedding, and more. Some pieces were high-end and expensive, but there were also reasonably priced items that made great gifts or personal keepsakes. The quality across the board was excellent. We ended up buying a few silk scarves and pillowcases.
What made the visit even more enjoyable was the peaceful, garden-like setting and the relaxed atmosphere—no hard selling, just friendly staff who were proud of their craft. It’s a great stop if you’re interested in Thai textiles or want to bring home something meaningful.
Highly recommended if you’re in Chiang Mai and have a couple of...
Read moreTake care if you buy things in the shop. I bought quite a number of items as presents. I also- after some thought, as I don't normally spend £80+on one item as a holiday gift- bought a beautiful midnight blue silk dressing gown with a flower pattern on it, for my daughter. When you go to the till they take all your purchase to wrap them up. They will also it appears have gone to the stock room to get a Prepacked gown rather than just wrap up the one you gave them which you thought you were puchasing! It was only when I got back to England that I discovered I had been given a black gown not the lovely midnight blue one I had handed over to them along with all my other puchases .i had spent soem time choosing the right colour and sadly black is a colour my daughter does not wear at all.😰. Gutted to have wasted my money on a gift which is not something she will want and feel totally let down by a place which claims to be high end shopping but they can't even manage to given you what...
Read moreWe also visited Shinawatra but Thai Sill Village was far superior. The free tour (quick, takes about 10min) gave us a great appreciation for all things silk: seeing the worms, cocoons, threads and weaving looms is amazing. From there you enter the showroom which is vast and filled with incredible high quality silk items. They offer tailor and custom clothing but not during the holidays (between Dec 29-Jan 2). The ready made blouses, shirts, dresses are beautiful and each are one of a kind. The scarves are beyond the run of the mill you find at the markets. They are not cheap but the selection and quality are worthwhile. We had also been hunting a large sized stuffed silk elephant as gifts for our little ones and we found them here! The smaller makeup pouches etc were not as beautiful as some market goods but were fairly priced. Worth the stop and trip from the main...
