Ao Phrao Beach — Local services in Ko Kut

Common Thailand, don't you have any pride? I think, except for Bali, I have never seen a dirtier beach in my life. And I have been to hundreds of beaches all over the world. There are two resorts on this beach who's employees are just sitting around an old doing nothing. They could easily keep the beach clean or at least cleanER. They charge for the sun beds but don't pick up garbage... Nice .... The disappointment was real with this one because everyone hyped this beach so much. The water doesn't seem too clean either. Sure it is clear but there's foam on it here and there which usually indicates pollution and high amounts of organic waste in the water. The garbage also doesn't seem to be fresh, most of it looks like it has been in the beach for weeks or even months. Terrible.

Why 4 stars and not 5: garbage and very small shadow spots. Simple as that. The beach is long, wide and almost deserted, you will find your own lonely spot with no people around but you will find garbage too and it will be hard to find some shadow so be ready to get cooked by the sun if you do not stay at one of the three beach clubs or resorts available on this beach. The landscape and the views are beautiful, with typical Thai rich vegetation, water is crystal clear and the only sounds you will hear come from the waves, the crickets and the birds. What a shame that so much garbage is left on this beauty of nature, humans are just not capable to manage all the plastic that they produce. It sounds like an easy task for the most intelligent animal on the planet but evidently it is too hard to actually not leave any garbage in public areas. The most intelligent animal in the planet is the only one that actually pollutes...

The beach has a beautiful, tropical vibe and a lot of potential. Palm trees, soft sand, and the overall setting really give you that island feeling.

Unfortunately, it was quite littered when I visited, which definitely took away the experience. If it were better maintained, this could easily be one of the highlights of the area.

Still, with the right mindset, it’s a nice place to relax – just don’t expect...
