ท่าน้ำวัดตำหนักใต้มีร้านอาหารขายอากาศดีมาก ก่อนที่จะสร้างวัด สถานที่ตั้งเคยเป็นที่สร้างพลับพลาที่ประทับชั่วคราวของสมเด็จพระเจ้ากรุงธนบุรี และสันนิษฐานว่าวิหารและหอระฆังสร้างขึ้นเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2367 (รัชกาลที่ 3) เดิมวัดนี้เรียกกันว่า วัดตำหนัก ต่อมาสมเด็จพระมหาสมณเจ้า กรมพระยาวชิรญาณวโรรส เสด็จตรวจราชการคณะสงฆ์เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2464 ทรงเห็นว่ามีชื่อวัดซ้ำ จึงได้ต่อคำว่า ใต้ท้ายชื่อ จากทิศที่ตั้ง พระอุโบสถหลังใหม่ สร้างขึ้นจากนำบานประตูหน้าต่าง เพดานของอุโบสถหลังเก่ามาใช้ ซึ่งหน้าบันนั้นเป็นไม้สักแกะสลักเป็นรูปนกประดับด้วยพุดตานเทศ มีรูปช้างทรงเครื่อง ยืนอยู่เหนือเมฆตรงกลางลายกระหนก พระประธานเป็นปางมารวิชัยสมัยสุโขทัย วิหารเก่าแก่ซึ่งมีหน้าบันเป็นไม้สักแกะสลักเป็นรูปกระหนกดอกจอก มีรูปม้าทรงเครื่องอยู่ภายในกระหนก ซุ้มบานประตู ซุ้มหน้าต่าง เป็นลายดอกไม้ปูนปั้นยังคงเหลืออยู่บ้าง บานประตูหน้าต่าง เขียนลายทองรดน้ำ หอระฆัง 2 ชั้นที่หลังคาทำเป็นรูปปรางค์ลึกเข้าไป และมีต้นโพธิ์พุทธคยาจากอินเดียมาปลูกโดยอดีตเจ้าอาวาสวัดตำหนักใต้ เมื่อวันที่ 8 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ. 2514[1] มีบันทึกว่า วัดตำหนักใต้เป็นจุดที่พระเจ้าตากสินเสด็จพระราชดำเนินมารับพระแก้วมรกตเข้าสู่พระนคร...
