As a cat lover, I’m sharing this to warn others.

I left my cat at Lazy Cat Hotel Phuket for 12 days, 27 sep - 8 oct 2024. I told the staff twice not to touch her because she’s sensitive, but I caught them on video doing it more than once. They also fed her right next to the litter box and broke her bowl without informing me.

She went in healthy, but during the stay she started sneezing. The staff messaged me saying they would take her to the hospital. I paid the hospital bill. The vet said it was mild flu and gave her immune pills—but she remained sick with flu-like symptoms for 7 months after.

There may have been other sick cats at the hotel, but I was never informed of any risk. No hygiene protocol or transparency was in place. While taking her to the vet, they left the other cats alone in the hotel and also charged me for the hospital transport.

The caretaker clearly wasn’t trained properly. They miscalculated the bill. When I brought up these issues, the owner—who is not Thai—handled everything very poorly. Instead of being accountable, she dismissed my concerns and tried to manipulate the conversation to make me feel guilty, rather than acknowledge any fault. Her attitude made things worse.

This wasn’t just poor service—it was unsafe and emotionally stressful for both me and my cat. I still have full chat records and video footage. I will continue to report this to the relevant authorities.

To fellow cat lovers: please be cautious. This is my real experience.

Edited to reply to owner’s response

Thank you for your response. I read it with full awareness and presence.

However, your message reflects defensiveness rather than development. While you offered a 15% discount and a free shower for future stays, the core issue remains unaddressed—how you will prevent similar harm from happening again.

During the vet visit, the only caretaker left the premises, leaving all other cats unsupervised. This reflects a clear systems failure. You questioned why I mentioned nationality—I only did so because the owner not being based in Thailand affected oversight and safety.

Your reply also uses passive phrasing—“unintentionally crossed,” “usual procedure,” “acted responsibly”—without clear accountability. As the Buddha taught:

“Speak only the truth. Speak what is useful. Do no harm.”

You likened illness to “flu in schools,” implying it’s inevitable. But unlike children, animals cannot speak. Pet hotels have a greater duty to anticipate and prevent harm—with protocols like pre-boarding health checks, isolation for sick cats, proper staffing and after checked out

I have retained full chat records and video, including responses that focused on small discounts rather than accountability. This is not about money—it’s about trust, well-being, and professional care.

The issue isn’t that something went wrong—it’s that your response showed no reflection, no humility, and no intent to grow. I will proceed to file a report with the relevant authorities—not out of anger, but out of duty to prevent future harm.

This is not personal. It’s a necessary step to protect animals who cannot speak for themselves.

I hope this is received in the spirit it’s given—not to shame, but to invite reflection. So no other guardians—or animals—must go through the same.

May this become a chance to evolve, not...

You can trust your pet to the owner and the hotel staff. I went away for the weekend and was very worried that I would have to leave my cat behind, but my worries were in vain). Even before check-in you will be sent a large questionnaire, which contains a lot of questions about the care of the cat: feeding schedule, habits, what the cat likes and dislikes, whether you need to give medication and so on. The staff will follow the instructions you give on the questionnaire. The second positive point for me is that you can't just walk into the hotel. The front door is always locked and the area where the cat rooms are located is behind another door. So you must first get to the reception area, and then go through another closed door to the general area for cats. This is a huge plus, as the probability of accidental loss of a cat or its escape tends to zero.

Twice a day you get a full photo and video report about your cat. You can also write and ask how your pet is doing at any time. As a rule, you get an answer very quickly. About the rooms - the hotel has different rooms, I booked deluxe plus. The room has a bed, a litter tray, bowls and there are also different hammocks and houses to make the cat cozy. All rooms were very clean, the hotel itself is practically odorless, it is nice to be there and not afraid to leave your pet. There is also a large common play area, so your cat will not be permanently locked in his room, he can play and explore the common area. I really liked the owner of the hotel and the staff, you can see that they love animals and will take good care of them. When I go on my next trip I will use this...

I was anxious leaving our four month old cat, Ripley, with strangers for the first time for a two week holiday abroad--but it turns out that Lazy Cat Hotel is more than just a lodging house--it's a true home away from home.

The space is cheerful, clean, and the cat condos are spacious and full of cozy spots to snooze. There's plenty of room for kitties to play, explore, or just watch the birds flit by the windows.

The staffers are kind and true cat people--always ready for a cuddle, a play session, or to give a scritch under the chin. They kept us informed on how Ripley was doing in impressive detail, with updates, photos and videos twice daily. Bonus: they took far cuter pictures of my cat than I could ever manage! She looked like a feline supermodel. :) Within a few days time, they really understood her schedule and quirks and kept her busy and happy every day.

I can honestly say that Lazy Cat put me at such ease that I never once worried about Ripley during our two week holiday abroad. Check out was simple and easy and we have already booked her another stay at Lazy Cat during our next trip out of country.

My only issue is she might not want to come home to us after--she loves being at Lazy...
