HIDDEN JEWEL THAT EVERYONE KNOWS Edit October 2021

WAT THA PHRA- Pronounced Wa Taa Paa because Thai people don't use phonics. Sadly Covid has pretty much shut down operation here since 2020.

This was my favorite temple in Bangkok. The reasons may appeal to you too. There used to be a GREAT SUNDAY MARKET FOR EVERYONE. It's not a tourist destination and although I've been more times than I could possibly remember I don't recall having ever seen a western face. On Sunday late afternoon theres a very large market on the temple grounds. This is where I generally purchase my groceries for the week. The prices for farmer grown produce are a fraction of grocery store prices and the produce is fresh. Exceptionally fresh and cheap. Theres also dry goods, cook ware, home stuff, clothing etc. The people here are generally very friendly and accommodating.

THE OLD TEMPLE - Probably dates back about 600 years, it's supported by I-beams and is encapsulated inside of a rather glamorous newer structure. Doesn't matter if your Buddhist or not, You Will Want To Visit This Magnificent Relic.

The Ancient Temple was originally built on an island and was accessible only by boat. Since modern times many of Bangkok's klongs have been filled. This is a good thing since malaria is no longer a problem and you can now gain land access. Pictured is the primary road into the temple, which is located off the main road / I've attached several photographs next to this text.

November 2020 I've added some photos of the abbot's cremation ceremony. Highly ornate and apparently the whole neighborhood showed up. Hope the pictures come through as your unlikely to see anything ...

An old temple with centuries old structures still standing. An elderly woman living nearby told me that someone once tried to demolish it to rebuild but strange misfortunes happened so they decided to build a new pavilion over the old one instead. No need to mention how sacred it is, right 👀

🚝MRT ThaPhra walk 500 m & take motorcycle taxi ~30āļŋ

🚃BTS Talat Phlu taxi 60āļŋ & motorcycle taxi 40āļŋ

🚗 There’s plenty of parking inside the temple.

FYI : There are also two famous temples nearby Wat Pradu (āļ§āļąāļ”āļ›āļĢāļ°āļ”āļđāđˆāļ‰āļīāļĄāļžāļĨāļĩ) and Wat Paknam (āļ§āļąāļ”āļ›āļēāļāļ™āđ‰āļģ)

FYI 2 : Since you’re in the area, another spot worth visiting is Khlong Bang Luang Market (āļ„āļĨāļāļ‡āļšāļēāļ‡āļŦāļĨāļ§āļ‡) also known as the Artist’s Village by the canal a relaxing place to stroll around and get a glimpse of traditional Thai lifestyle. (The easiest way to get there from the temple...

HIDDEN JEWEL THAT EVERYONE KNOWS Edit October 2021 WAT THA PHRA- Pronounced Wa Taa Paa because Thai people don't use phonics. Hope the pictures come through as your unlikely to see anything like this again.

An old temple with centuries old structures still standing. An elderly woman living nearby told me that someone once tried to demolish it to rebuild but strange misfortunes happened so they decided to build a new pavilion over the old one instead. No need to mention how sacred it is, right 👀 🚝MRT ThaPhra >>>> walk 500 m & take motorcycle taxi ~30āļŋ 🚃BTS Talat Phlu >>> taxi ~60āļŋ & motorcycle taxi ~40āļŋ 🚗 There’s plenty of parking inside the temple. FYI : There are also two famous temples nearby Wat Pradu (āļ§āļąāļ”āļ›āļĢāļ°āļ”āļđāđˆāļ‰āļīāļĄāļžāļĨāļĩ) and Wat Paknam (āļ§āļąāļ”āļ›āļēāļāļ™āđ‰āļģ) FYI 2 : Since you’re in the area, another spot worth visiting is Khlong Bang Luang Market (āļ„āļĨāļāļ‡āļšāļēāļ‡āļŦāļĨāļ§āļ‡) also known as the Artist’s Village by the canal a relaxing place to stroll around and get a glimpse of traditional Thai lifestyle. (The easiest way to get there from the temple is by taxi!)
