Macqueripe Bay is one of my favorites places to swim. It is located at the end of the Tucker valley road and if you are going there you can stop along the way and visit Bamboo Cathedral. There are also bike trails and a couple hiking trails in the area. The hike to the Covigne River Gorge is very scenic and beautiful. There is another to a small aeroplane crash and to a weather tower (I believe, but I've only been to thr gorges).
The bay itself has undergone some construction. There used to be a sharp drop when you first entered the water. However this was filled recently. The view is amazing both above and below the water. There are plenty of fish to see on a good day. You can also get visits from turtles, manta rays, eels and squid in the water. There many different types of fish both large and small. Walk with your snorkel/goggles. It's absolutely worth it.
One of my favorite things to do is to swim past the surf and lay on my back and look up at the clouds and trees above the bay. This is something that is irreplaceable. It's beautiful is only matched by it's calm.
Did I mention there are howler monkeys in the bamboo and trees around the bay. If you walk to the site of the previous zip line center you can catch a glimpse of them. They are also very visible at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreArguably, the most scenic beach in Trinidad, and definitely one of the most scenic in the entire twin island state of Trinidad and Tobago.
Like most of the best beaches in Trinidad (most on the North Coast), it doesn't make itself extremely easy to access, but the issue in this case is not the actual journey to the beach - it is a very easy, relatively flat drive/bike ride through the beautiful Tucker Valley in Chaguaramas (about 20 mins from Port of Spain proper without traffic and for some, perhaps very walkable) to the beach's main parking area.
The issue here is that the beach, located as it is on the North Coast, can only be accessed via a relatively steep downhill trek.
For some reason, the authorities haven't figured out how to make the pathway completely accessible, and instead have offered a solution consisting of a partial stairs, partial ramp-styled access which makes access for those with limited mobility more than a bit challenging.
Accessibility issues aside, however, once you arrive to the actual beach, the spectacular views of clear waters with gently rolling waves reflecting the emerald green colour of the heavily forested mountains above are, in a word,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family and I visited this beach on a Sunday on a sight seeing trip with some Trinidadian relatives. The drive was pleasant there, giving a countryside vibe. However, upon arriving, the place was buzzing with activity. Music, Laughing, cooking, etc. We walked down the winding platform, taking in the view and historical significance. We were told there were remnants of a fort since it was a stronghold with a good view of the bay. The beach was crowded, and the brackish green water looked tempting for swim. The real beauty of the bay can be seen from above with a drone. It is quite a remarkable view from above. there was also a zip line hidden just above the canopy, so be careful if you intend to fly there! There were also lifeguards there! Happy to have visited! Definitely recommend trips to this...
