Carrefour, Damac Hills 2 — Local services in Dubai

I don’t understand the hate towards this branch of Carrefour. People here are complaining a lot about high prices, low variety of food, and mess at the shop. I moved to DH2 just 2 months ago, and I visit this shop every 2-3 days. So far never experienced expired food. All the fruits / veggies are always available, prices are good, I would say I even surprised with the prices, they are almost like in large hypermarkets. I like their fresh seafood, just yesterday bought 2kg of big size shrimps for 60 aed, and the staff cleaned them for me in 7 minutes — super convenient. I like their European cheese selection, also good, a lot of options of cheddar, the whole new shelf. They even have a section with a special healthy food, like zero calorie sweeteners, special kinds of flour, organic food and so on. So really if I don’t have time to go to a big hypermarket, I just go to our Carrefour and so far very happy to have it nearby. And again, nothing is crazy overpriced, prices are like in other branches of Carrefour. And about the variety and quality, before DH2 I lived in JLT, and Carrefour there was way more worse, both quality and quantity. The only thing that I don’t like is organisation of queues, the shop is too big to have only 2 cashiers. So in the evening peak time sometimes it is a problem. But again, there are self checkouts, so partially this resolves the problem. Also in the evening time sometimes the bread section is a bit messy. One star is too much! I always thought this Carrefour location might improve after starting off pretty small, the opposite was the case.

1. Vegetable section is basically the dump site for stuff that wasn’t sold elsewhere. 90% of the compost here I wouldn’t touch

2. Meat section - the ones in Jebel Ali industrial area are cleaner and have better product. Good as pet food, but otherwise…

3. Getting a shopping cart, almost every time of the day they are like Easter eggs, can be found in the car park. But who cares? Certainly not the staff

4. plenty of product is out of stock on a regular basis.

5. Self check out counters are almost always blocked by unfinished check outs which you can’t cancel. And also here, guess who doesn’t care…

6. Staff - this branch seems to be either massively under-staffed or the staff is just there for the paycheck

As a summary, by far the worst Carrefour I’ve ever experienced. And all that at Carrefour premium prices.

Update: Now it’s at the point where it’s definitely one of the most disgusting grocery stores in Dubai! An awful sleep of either rotten meat/fish or sewerage across the whole store. In front of the meat/fish section you can hardly breathe. Now i would definitely consider reporting this to the government as surely the cleanliness standards they have, should disqualify them from handling any...

The place is as other Carrefours, nothing much. Their home delivery service is very poor !!! You place an order... no confirmation from their end .. you should follow up many times to know the status of your order !! I have WhatsApp them today at 7:03AM.. their know I am just requesting for a answer on the status of my order although their ‘ appearing online “ .. we all understand that order takes some time.. but confirming an order? And scheduling a timing to deliver why ? Till it take so much time !!! I try to avoid typing negative comments but once it happens more then once.. I think we should make things clear for others to avoid being at the same issue...
