07/10/24. Circular walk from Silverdale road to Arnside Knott. Approximately 6.5 miles, challenging in parts, but well worth the effort. The starting point is the lay-by on the Silverdale road, what3words, economies.loving.refer. Cross the road and go through a small gate into the woods, bear left, pass the national trust sign and continue to a small fork. At the fork, keep right and travel uphill into the woods. At the top of the hill, there is a good viewpoint over Silverdale cove on the left. Continue over the top of the hill and head down through the woods towards the coastal path. This is quite a steep, tricky descent, but there are plenty of trees to hold onto for assistance. Turn right onto the coastal path, the path starts of wide and flat, but when it starts to follow the cliff edge, it becomes steeper, narrower and slippy, when the rocks on the path are wet. Be careful, there is a shear drop to the left! Keep following the coastal path, past the caravan park until you reach a small bay, go around the back of the bay and join a small road. There is a small white building here, (Bob,s cafe), follow the road around a couple of bends, and look for an enclosed path, on the right, signposted, Arnside Knott. Once you enter the woods, the path climbs guide steeply until you reach a wall, follow the signpost to the Knott, along the path that gets steeper again. The views from the Knott viewpoint are worth the effort! From the viewpoint, follow the broad path to the right, back into the woods, and follow it down through the woods, following the signposts to Silverdale road, the path can be quite slippy when wet. This path will bring you to a wall that runs alongside Silverdale road, follow the wall back to the small gate you started from.

Absolutely stunning views definitely deserves title of AONB. Pictures do little justice. One teeny tiny warning, the cliff walk can be terrifying when you have a spirited young one who has no fear. I couldn't take in the views as I was constantly on slip watch 🤣. But I would definitely do it again it was Completely worth it! Arnside Is gorgeous and lot of local shops, pubs and very close to train station and the people are so friendly. Parking can be a bit hit and miss as it gets busy but be patient a space will come may be best getting there early.

What a lovely walk. I did this walk nearly 8 months pregnant so it is a nice walk. Up and down took about 1 1/2 hours at a leisurely pace. The views are beautiful at different viewing points and the dog had a great time. I did it comfortably in trainers but the floor is rocky so walking shoes would be helpful. Drive up the one car track and over the cattle grid and you have the carpark which is free but no toilets. Take a picnic for a lovely adventure out

The forgotten bit of the lake district, a little haven of peace with extensive views of estuary and hills, which is achieved with a small climb by Lake District standards! Of course, there is the chance of spotting wildlife a plenty, including a rare butterfly. Access the info on the National Trust website. As with all NT properties, there will be more paths than on the OS map, so beware taking the wrong one off the top as we did, resulting in some impromptu...
