East Lancashire Railway - (Irwell Vale,Station) — Local services in Borough of Rossendale

2 weeks ago we travelled on the steam train from Bury to Rawtenstall as part of my nieces home hen party! Had the most fantastic experience and the staff who are all volunteers could not do enough for us. Need to mention Josh who was very attentive throughout the journey and made our time on the train extremely enjoyable with lots of laughter and a great start to the day! Been meaning for years to visit this railway having visited most others in the country. Staff very friendly. Scenery on the route good. The stations though seem a bit lifeless. Need more things to see like access to engine shed or a small museum about the railway. Pricing was OK, but in all fairness probably wouldn't re-visit. True there are many preserved railways that aren't as good but there are quite a few...

Picturesque small station on the East Lancs Railway which is not easy to find. Public footpaths fron Edenfield side with access to the station via subway. Station is not staffed but well maintained with period feel so you need to check times beforehand. Great viewing points around for photos of the trains & railway.
