Update It's been over 2 years since my original review and I feel the need to give a small update. A lot of fish have visibly grown which is pleasing and the fishing is as good as always. The main tactics I use are waggler (corn, maggots and worm) and pellet waggler during warm months.
Over the last few months I have exclusively used feeder tactics (method feeder, banjo and pellet feeders). Considering the size of fish on this lake these are the only tactics I would ever consider. I see anglers all the time blanking or maybe catching one fish all day as they fish specimen tactics. My worst day with a waggler on this lake has yielded me 5 carp and my worst feeder day resulted in 9 carp.
The one thing this lake desperately needs is fish care. A lot of carp have parrot mouths because anglers who don't know what they're doing and there are no rig checks are being conducted conducted.
Initial review I just fished this lake today, for the first time. I have tried the classic maggots on a 4m elasticated whip and I got roach on an on, within seconds after casting. After 30-40 minutes I have started fishing a pellet waggler - 6mm pellets hook size 16 and got my first carp, about 2lbs straight away. During the course of the day I caught about 6 carps around that sort of size and missed 2 biger, much bigger ones (they completly destroyed my fragile rig). There is plenty of fish in this lake and it only costs £5 / 1 rod and £7 / 2 rods. For this price I can forgive the old fishing swimms, the ocassional litter and the fact that there are no more toilet facilities. If you live nearby, absolutely try...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been visiting Horsham for many years now and the experience has been great. Until very recently the lake has gone drastically downhill.
Through each visit there seems to be an increase in the amount of litter scattered all over the venue and floating around the lake, most if not all the casting platforms are broken and unstable.
The price per rod, I was told, has increased from a generous £5 a rod to £10 per rod. This increase was made in August although there has still been no added signage to indicate this increase upon entry.
It is very unfortunate for people like me who have enjoyed visiting Horsham fishing lake in the past, to see the place go downhill is a sorry sight.
I hope to see this fishing lake improve in the future so I can continue visiting, but until then I will not be fishing...
Read moreRevisited after a few years. Lake has been extended a lot! From my day fish ( £10 per rod )... a nice 10.8 lb common carp, followed by 4 smaller carp of around 1 lb in size. Bailif tells me they go up to 17lb . Plenty of fish... just need to get find the right bait and tactics. Fishing platforms are somewhat rickety... but there are plenty of other swims... however sometimes it's hard to determine if they are swims. No toilets, this has put off other anglers and is a real shame. Owners clearly see fishing value but must look after customers to really make this a success. Lots of lost floats in water or trees and discarded line. The dirt track that leads to lakes needs some holes filled in. Does need some basic TLC. See...
