Cliburn Moss Nature Reserve — Local services in Brougham

This is a really nice, though small, woodland area near Center Parcs. You won’t encounter any visitors from Center Parcs here, but you may pass a local or two, which adds to the peaceful atmosphere. The walk is fairly short since the reserve isn’t very large, with only a couple of paths that loop back to the small parking area. The trails are well-maintained, with wooden pier-like walkways through the wetter sections. Some areas are dry, while others quickly turn into swamp-like terrain, creating a magical ambiance. Lovely walk with our miniature schnauzer, Gracie... Soon as we went in a buzzard came low overhead and shortly after a jenny wren appeared flitting about the bushes. Gracie hopped off the duck board into deep, gooey black mud up to her midrift 🙀 Dunked her in the first clean water we got to and a good soapy wash down back at the caravan! A great little reserve to escape from the hustle and bustle of CenterParcs at Whinfell. Excellent habitat management with well maintained footways. Sadly as with many of our wildlife habitats it’s impacted by dog owners who don’t understand the effect that dogs off lead and dog poo have on wildlife.
