Hobson's Park is a wonderful place to unwind and watch wildlife - truly one of Cambridge's hidden treasures!
In winter, wildfowl shelter here, and in summer, the meadows are abuzz with wildlife. The best bird reserve inside Cambridge by far. Great for introducing children to the natural world.
Saying that, please please PLEASE keep your dog on a lead. Dogs have been known to have rampaged around the lake, killing birds as they go. On one rather worrying incident last January, a dog was let loosen the reserve, frightening off about 600 birds at the most lean part of the year. The owners just watched them go and made NO EFFORT whatsoever to contain them. There are parks very close to the reserve, so I would let your dog off the lead there. Read moreIt was amazing, but things have changed and as always, not necessarily for the best. Before it was more wild and we could get pretty close to viewing the birds, but now there is a large land-gap between viewing places and the lake.
There are a lot of birds. I've seen a few migratory species as well, so there is definitely a place for avid birdwatchers to check it out.
