Love the park has always and kids loved the playground, but and it's a BIG BUT, 2 significant problems spoilt the entire visit.. we went for a walk around the lake has normal but decided to turn right at the bridge rather than left and arou d the lake, that was a Big Mistake, the rout takes you though the woods up towards the caravan club grounds, the stench of raw sewage was overpowering it was truly aweful and visual evidence of the awful stink flowed down the disgusting streams that flank the path on both sides!!! What an utter disgusting sight and smell! It looked to be coming from the camp site. The second part to the complaint came when we got back to the car park, we took the kids tò wash theirs hands and the gents especially were gross, filthy and stunk of urine... added to the misery (this was approx 3.15pm) the dam cafe was closed! Read moreA lovely newer park area revitalised from the spoils of the old mining landscape. The main lake is 1 mile around with paths for walking, running or cycling, and used for the local Parkrun every Saturday morning. There are other fishing lakes and nature reserve lakes besides the main one (4 in total). The large hill was created from the old mining spoil heap and has great views from the top, accessible by the direct route or a more gentle incline path (take the path from the top end of the car park and then the first path off to the left). There is also a cafe and toilet facilities, bike racks, children's playground and outdoor exercise equipment. Car parking and entrance is all free, provided by the council.
