Coffee Stop (The Friends Of Poolsbrook Country Park Cafe) — Restaurant in Chesterfield

Let's be honest on a miserable midweek winters day with rain in the air the foot fall to any Country Park Cafe is rather poor. Poolsbrook was no exception. So, as I arrived with my mind set on some hot food after a cycle from just 5 miles away. I was disappointed as the cafe had just stopped serving hot food. I got a hot coffee and a lump of cake. No fault of anyone. Why stop open with only a single customer if you are a business. No matter. It is a short diversion from the Trans Pennine Trail and if you are moving on to the Clowne Greenway trails it's perfect. There are places to eat outside and secure your cycle. For those who like a bit of wildlife then there is a good amount of waterbirds and good walks to see or hear the native birdlife.

Ordered 2 coffees and a kids box (pack up lunch for my 3 years old) Coffees were fine and nothing to complain about. But the £4.50 kids box was terrible.... Advertised as sandwich, crisps, fruit juice, raisins, yogurt and choc bar. Received a very poorly filled cheese sandwich with more butter than cheese, no crisps, carton of apple juice (which was fine) a box of raisins that I think as months old and bone dry, no yogurt and a freddo. I was told there was no yogurts so was asked if I wanted another box of raisins instead (poor substitute let's be honest) Hadn't noticed the issues until we had had walked part way around the lake.

So in summary, very cheap sandwich, missing items and the items we did get have been left to dry out...

Shame because the cafe itself and park are beautiful , went recently around 2pm and said they were closed , it’s the weekend and was fairly busy so can’t really understand why they close down so early , I have a feeling it’s not down to the lovely ladies inside that make that decision as when we have been before and served they have been lovely , sadly I have to give the food 1 star , not because of the closure but the times we have eaten before everything is just chucked in the microwave and sadly it’s actually quite expensive , id stick to the hot drinks and...
