I visited this highly rated Gelato place in Brighton with my mum on Saturday 17th of July, and having queued patiently, we were served by the most disgraceful, bitter, vindictive, antisocial young lady I have ever met in my life. Having greeted this said person with a smile, and made my order of two cones with 3 scoops, her immediate response was not amiable or polite, but she turned around coldly and said "you need to tell me as I am serving", almost like it was an order. Being the patient person I am, I didn't say anything, until she began scooping the ice cream flavors, where I noticed she was scooping out really small portions of each flavor, unlike her colleagues who right beside her were putting large, and generous scoops for everyone else. I asked her why the scoops were so small, even though I was order a 3 scoops in a large cone, and she laconically said, "this is a large scoop"... clearly without any sense of irony and the fact that her colleagues were contradicting her, right next to her. I Clearly without any sense of self-awareness, this staff member went from bad to awful when I asked to taste some of the gelato before making my flavor choices known. After asking to taste the candy-floss flavor gelato, she blurted out "this is your second and final taster". I paused for one second and said "excuse me", shocked by the now incredible rudeness, which she deflected as a managerial policy. But here are a few home truths for the shambolic customer service I received today. When a paying customer, waits in line, and upon reaching your counter, he expects at a minimum, polite and attentive service, and he does not receive it, is already poor, but when he is ordering generously, and in-turn paying your business money, and receiving a less than poor service, deceitful quantity of the order that does not mach what is offered or paid for, and then told by an insecure and rude staff member that he is cannot try before he buys, that customer will (A) turn around and cancel the entire order (including the 3 scoops already served), will (B) tell you exactly what he thinks of your behavior, then (C) make sure others immediately hear how poor your customer service is (2 people in the queue behind us left after they witnessed the incident), and lastly (D) will make sure to give your overrated establishment a harsh review, based on the poor experience of the customer. And you know what they say, a customer is the lifeblood of...
Read moreMy group of friends and I noticed this place while walking to the beach from the train station. We saw the crepes and waffles advertised on the window, and we legitimately couldn't stop talking about them as we went about our day trip in Brighton. After deciding we'd give into the craving, we came back several hours later and were extremely excited for the yummy desserts we were about to have.
After waiting in line for about 15 minutes, my friend asked for the crepe and was rudely told by a male employee that they don't sell crepes anymore. My friend was confused about this, and instead of offering any further explanation the male employee said "next" to call over the the next person in line. We stopped him right there as we decided to get some gelato since it looked really good and we still wanted something sweet.
Throughout the process, he was still very rude and scolded us about our US credit/debit cards. We offered other ways to verify our signatures and identifies, but he just seemed extremely bothered throughout the whole ordeal. I couldn't even offer to just pay in cash until the end because he never allowed me to interject. I do understand that there are policies surrounding this, but there is certainly a much friendlier way to let your customer know about these policies. I had never experienced such disrespectful customer service before.
Coming here was just a disappointment. We were very giddy about coming here only to just be treated like an inconvenience. The gelato was good, but that interaction real soured our moods for a bit. It simply...
Read moreDelicious ice cream...shame about the rude staff...! I was looking at the menu on the board, and was specifically searching for the waffles, but couldn't find them on their menu, so asked the young lady with blonde hair, in a ponytail, and she just said, it's on the menu...although i had specifically stated that I couldn't find it on there, and she could clearly see me struggling to find it as well. Then she just gave me the small menu on the counter, and said...have a look at that...it's in there, without actually giving me the waffle page. I actually was just about to walk off, but there was a customer behind me, so stayed and ordered ice cream, as I didn't want to make a scene. Then after finally ordering the waffle, she said, I don't know how to make it and I'll have to call my manager, and got in a huff and puff about it. Well, so sorry for ordering something that was listed on your menu...gosh!!! Then I couldn't find what toppings and sauces were available, as I didn't see them anywhere on the menu...so asked her about these...but again, her behaviour demonstrated that she was really put out that I had even asked this. I just felt really uncomfortable about this whole experience, and just wanted to walk out. Overall, the ice cream is lovely, but the staff need to decide whether working in customer service is...
