Thursday 16th January 2025 Rake Brook Reservoir is a reservoir fed by two streams, including the eponymous Rake Brook, a tributary of the River Roddlesworth in Lancashire, England. The reservoir is adjacent to the two Roddlesworth Reservoirs. It was constructed in the 1850s by Thomas Hawksley for Liverpool Corporation Waterworks, and was designed to hold compensation water to maintain flows in the rivers, whereas the reservoirs at Lower Rivington, Upper Rivington and Anglezarke held water for the public water supply. Rake Brook Reservoir is the first reservoir you come to on a four-mile circular walk around the three reservoirs at Roddlesworth, starting at the Hare & Hounds pub on Bolton Road. Please feel free to visit my other two reviews and photographs of the other two reservoirs for more information regarding the reservoirs. The weather was sunny but a little chilly as it was in the middle of winter. The walk takes approximately two hours, depending upon your pace, and consists of some well-defined concrete or asphalt paths but most of the paths are dirt tracks which can get very muddy in the winter or after heavy rain. I recommend appropriate footwear. The trail is a circular trail which takes you alongside the reservoirs and through some beautiful woodland. I went in the middle of winter where there weren't any leaves on the trees and can only imagine it would be more beautiful in spring or summer when the trees and plants would be in full bloom. The trail is perfect for families and is also very popular with dog walkers. There is fishing at the reservoirs but you must be a member of a fishing club or hold a valid fishing permit. I fully intend to visit this area again preferably in the spring or summer and highly recommend this walk to anyone. However, please be aware that most of this walk would not be suitable for people in wheelchairs or with prams. The only parking is a narrow road opposite the Hare & Hounds pub and has limited parking spaces. There are no public...
