A week back I visited this place with friends. This is the first beach I have visited is muddy and not suitable for swimming. However we dipped ourself inside the water and played with beach ball. It was lovely experience seeing the water resting on the sand beach. Went for long walk along the water and collected lot of shells. Read moreVery enjoyable day spent on West Mersea. Clean and friendly environment. There was an Open Studios' event over this weekend (to 2 June 2019), so we walked about half the length of West Mersea, visiting various artists in the their studios, displaying their photography, paintings, illustrations and printmaking/etching. Walked back on the beach for part of the way, until we wanted some refreshments. Stopped off for a latte and tea with some donuts. This fuelled the rest of our walk...

As a Londoner it took me a while to 'decompress' as my family and I set up camp. This is quite different from a manicured beach experience you may get at places like Brighton which, for me, is a good thing.
Along the perimeter beach huts have been erected standing as if on guard. If you plan to stay a while you may want to book one of these for the day, indeed, I'd advise it.
