Highfield Fish Plaice — Local services in East Devon

Arrived and was struck by the food on the front of the staff members blouse. Plastered after just an hour being open. I had been here before and found the chips were delicious but the fish was mediocre with very poor batter. Hence I ordered plain sausage and chips and waited...and waited. After 20 minutes I enquired and returned to my seat to wait some more. After 35 minutes I returned to the counter. No sausage and no chips to be found. I requested my money back which I was given with a cheeky wink. Including the drive these people had wasted an hour of my evening and left me hungry. This place has gone shockingly downhill since the last time I went a couple months ago. Chips are either soggy and horrible or taste like cardboard. Onion rings are just bland. They missed out one of the burgers on our order so we went back, rather than be kind enough to give us a burger for free because this was their fault they said we owe them the money. Tempted to not pay it as the food is atrocious. Didnt get asked if I wanted salad on my burger like we usually do. One of the burgers we received is horrible and chewy, the other was colder than the rest of the meal we received which was lukewarm at best. Thursday 8th July 2021, 7pm. 3 x cod and chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. Curry sauce very nice, peas good, chips good... Fish was terrible, totally over cooked and just about inedible.
