Every time I am here, I'm finding small herds of Welsh Mountain Ponies - the ancestors of those who lived in these areas before the Roman times - that roam free at the hills and meadows of this very famous area. I usually watch them from a distance, observing how they behave and interact with each other in their natural habitat, rough yet so irresistibly beautiful. ๐๐ด Today, despite the rainy forecast, I grabbed my camera and decided to photograph some of ponies. Welsh Mountain Ponies are one of the most unique inhabitants of Brecon Beacons NP - they are small and extremely resistant to challenging weather conditions. Their long manes, tangled by the wind, and thick fur reveal their primitive origins. Sometimes they graze on the roadsides, but most often, as today, they are choosing distant locations. As you can imagine, trying to approach the ponies while traversing rough terrain is quite an adventure! The open moorlands are extremely boggy at this time of year - you can never be sure whether a given tuft of long grass will support your weight or not... ๐ Maybe this is why it was so much fun to spend the day out at Brecon! We started our journey with a scenic car ride through the stunning landscape, and soon began exploring the area. Although heavy rain limited our exploration, it only added to the mystical charm of the surroundings.
Despite the weather, the trip was absolutely worth it. The lush greenery and breath-taking views left us all in awe. I canโt wait to return for a hiking expedition, as the trails promise even more incredible sights and experiences.
