The lodge we stayed in was Fairfield. It had a hot tub which was fabulous after a cold day on the lake or in the hills. The lodges are situated just outside Patterdale within a short drive of Glenridding. Ambleside is accessible over the beautiful Kirkstone Pass which on a clear day has amazing views. There is a gorgeous walk from the lodge past a waterfall and into Patterdale. Lovely wool shop along the way and they do take card and contactless payment! The other way there is a lovely circular walk around Brothers Water with a pub by the campsite for refreshments along the way. There is a more challenging route up to Angle Tarn and down into Hartsop for seasoned walkers. ||The lodge is well equipped with everything you need for a family of four. Plenty of plates bowls and cups. They even leave loads of dishwasher tablets which is super generous! The kitchen would benefit from more fridge space as the door sections do not hold a milk carton so we ended up removing the small shelf and storing the milk in the salad drawer. The lodge has a four drawer freezer which is great. The cooker is a bit hit and miss for cooking evenly so we stuck to stovetop cooking as much as possible. The beds are a little short for taller individuals and a little soft. Plenty of clothes storage and a handy warming cupboard for drying off swimming costumes, towels and wet weather gear. The covered porch also has a muddy boots mat, however be aware that boots left overnight on a windy wet day can be subject to horizontal rain even in the porch!|They clean and top up the hot tub daily except over the weekend so you may have to add a few bowls to ensure that the water doesn’t fall below the fill line! (It could be useful to leave hoses for this purpose near the outside taps)||This is our fourth lodge holiday in the lakes as a family and this lodge was the best we have stayed in. The location is excellent for visiting most Lake District attractions with easy routes for Ambleside, Windermere and Keswick. Locally there is loads to do around Ullswater, Glenridding and Pooley Bridge. Aira Force is close by and if launching is your thing there is a fantastic beach area between Glenridding and Aira Force called Glencoyne bridge with a national trust car park. Get there early because it is very popular. |The Ullswater Steamer is great but expensive so it is worth booking an early trip to make the most of the day. |We are definitely thinking of booking Hartsop again if we want to return...
Read moreWhether you are looking to tick off some Wainwright's or just want to visit the many picturesque towns and villages, Hartsop Fold is a great central location for The Lakes with they're kids and pet friendly lodges, some of which include a Hot Tub. There was a free to use Washing/Dryer available near reception, although only one of each... so if someone else is using it or has left clothing in, then you'll need to wait and hope someone else doesn't beat you to it. The lodges themselves (at least the one we stayed in - 'Ambleside') could do with some TLC, some of the decking was weak, and bowed conciderably under foot, sealent throughout was missing or coming away, flooring in the kitchen cut short of appliances, radiators had metal hanging off, Dishwasher has cosmetic damage, some of the blinds didnt work properly and some windows wouldnt open, that said, the lodge was clean and tidy when we arrived and the staff on-site were always very friendly and helpful. Free WiFi throughout the park, although we noticed it could be hit and miss at times, but we had good 4G O2 mobile reception. The park itself was quiet throughout our stay.
Overall, I was pleased with our stay here, mainly because of the great location and immediate access to a dog friendly walk (with a waterfall). Accommodation was adequate. On reflection, the price we paid was high when compared to other parks we've stayed at in the Lakes, during the...
