during our stay from Friday, May 2nd. Upon our arrival, we were greeted in a rather unceremonious manner, receiving only a paper coat hanger and vague directions. Excitedly, we pulled up to our bronze package caravan, eager to begin our long weekend break. However, we were immediately taken aback by the stark contrast between the advertised accommodations and the reality we encountered. Upon entering, I was shocked to find the furniture in a state of disrepair—specifically, the couches were not only old-fashioned but also visibly dirty, with unsightly rips and stains, including white marks covering the entirety of the upholstery. Unfortunately, this was just the beginning of the numerous issues we faced during our stay. When I attempted to pull out the under-couch bed, I was horrified to discover that it was broken and the area underneath was filthy, filled with dust, leftover food, and grime. As someone who suffers from asthma, this negligence is particularly concerning. I quickly closed the bed and went to wash my hands, only to find the cupboards coated in a wet black substance that I felt compelled to clean myself. I also attempted to check the size of the dishwasher but grew increasingly frustrated with the overall lack of cleanliness and maintenance in the caravan. Furthermore, while preparing dinner for my family that evening, I noticed the spatula was melted—likely a result of being left on a hot pan. I understand that kitchen utensils will be used frequently, but I would expect that any damaged items would be replaced to ensure a safe and functional cooking environment. Later, when I went to brush my teeth before bed, I encountered another issue: the bathroom sink would not drain properly. This made it impossible for me to wash my face or brush my teeth without the sink overflowing. The following morning, I attempted to book a swimming session for our family, only to find that all slots had been fully booked for the entirety of our stay. This was particularly distressing for my autistic son, who was eagerly looking forward to showcasing his new swimming trunks. Consequently, we had to pay for access to a leisure center outside the resort to take my children swimming, which was far from ideal. As we stayed in a dog-friendly caravan, I made it a point to clean up dog hair daily due to my asthma. However, to my surprise, there was no vacuum cleaner available—only a dustpan and brush, which are hardly sufficient for addressing pet hair. It seems unreasonable to expect guests, especially those with health considerations, to manage such a task without the proper tools. On Sunday, we visited the Sea Life Centre in Scarborough, which turned out to be the highlight of our weekend break. It was a refreshing escape from the unacceptable state of the caravan I paid £400 for. The centre provided excellent value for money, and the staff were absolutely fantastic. There's an incredible amount to see and enjoy there. During our visit, we had the opportunity to speak with a wonderful gentleman, a former employee of Haven, who previously worked at Blue Dolphin. He confidently shared that it is one of the dirtiest Haven holiday parks he has ever experienced. I couldn't agree more with his assessment. My husband, son, and I have all been struggling with chest issues, for which we've booked an appointment with a GP. I can only suspect that our health concerns stem from the uncleanliness of the caravan we stayed in. On the Sunday evening we took my autistic son to collect some tokens he had made on the Saturday, we were absolutely disgusted to see a teenage couple heavy petting kissing and the male had his hands down the females trousers! Because I didn't tell staff about the issues they are refusing a refund even with photo evidence of the issues we had

Wait. Before I begin, let me make sure I have my long list of things to mention here. Get comfortable, dear reader, as we may be here for some time. But it will save you some money. There's also a smattering of sarcasm, mainly designed at protecting my sanity than for your amusement.

After paying £499 for a silver caravan from Mon-Fri, we were given a check-in time of 2-3pm on the Monday. At 1pm, after we had travelled across the country, Haven called to say there was a delay and our caravan wouldn't be ready until "closer to 3pm". No problem, we thought, and off we went to the bar to spend £21.34 on two cocktails (both without ingredients [cherries and strawberries], which were apparently unavailable, a coffee and a strawberry 'milkshake' (semi-skimmed milk and a dash of Crusha).

When we did manage to get into our caravan, we were overwhelmed by the smell of dog. No worries again, though, as there's a cleanliness survey on the Haven app. Which didn't work. Housekeeping did come out after a phonecall and a bit of a mix up (apparently "we won't be in" sounds similar to "we'll definitely be in so make sure you knock and go away if we don't answer") but their best efforts were unsuccessful and ended in eau de dog mixed with parfum.

Caravan holidays are famed for their activities, including swimming. As long as you're okay with not being able to book swimming for the whole family on the app for more than two out of five days, obviously. Oh, and I hope you like cold water because not only was the pool apparently set to "shiver me timbers" but most of the showers were not heated either. And I don't mean "not quite warm enough for my tastes" but "by 'eck, old boy, the Thames is warmer".

One of the cubicles contained a flimsy red table topped with a baby-changing mat not secured to anything, ready for a small child to plummet on to the cold, hard tiles below. I doubt this will be there if you visit, though, as I've already reported it to the local council's environmental health team.

We later took advantage of the £1-children's-meal-if-you-pay-for-an-adult's-meal deal and only paid just shy of £40 for three adults' breakfasts and two childs'. Fortunately, after we complained, they even managed to turn the bread into lukewarm toast. Bargain!

On another occasion, while enjoying a Costa coffee (from a machine operated by button), we were treated to free entertainment in the form of a fire alarm, followed by what appeared to be mild confusion by workers, with one appearing to sprint from the bar area while another hesitated before asking guests to evacuate. Fortunately a kitchen worker was on hand to eventually bleat "car park", where we gathered with bemused looks on our faces and ever-cold cappuccinos in our hands. There was no fire.

Elsewhere, the soft play area is obviously incredibly popular with hygiene freaks as the soap dispenser was empty every time we visited.

And the team at Haven was obviously very safety conscious because, after asking for a vacuum to be delivered to our caravan (remember the aforementioned dog smell?), we were told they're too dangerous to hand out willy nilly. Praise the Lord we haven't ever been hurt by our vacuum cleaner at home, especially as we've never considered its potential hazardousness before as we've frolicked wildly with the power belt and brushes.

I've been facetious here because if I don't laugh I'll cry. But in all seriousness, we spent £499 just to stay at Blue Dolphin and a couple of hundred more despite being alert to what I honestly believe to be price gouging (four pints of Carling in a pitcher should not cost almost £20) and a raft of money-saving measures.

The booking system is utterly broken and unfair. We swam as a family on two days and our boys swam on their own on the other two because everything was booked up otherwise. The other activities were either too expensive or also booked up.

I complained to Haven, where I have enjoyed visits before (to Hafan y Mor and Lakeland) and was offered...

Should have been NO stars if possible marked it as 3 stars purely because we have been with Haven before over the years be it touring caravan stays or other Haven parks stopping at their different holiday homes but unlike before where we had no complaints & holidays were great. But this recent stay at Blue Dolphin was very disappointing given the special occasion of our 30th wedding anniversary which i booked in August last year 2024 as a surprise for my wife as the week of 19th-26th July stay was a nostalgic holiday reminding my wife & i of our honeymoon as we traveled all around the east coast of Yorkshire taking in Haven sites including Blue Dolphin 30 years ago on our honeymoon in our touring caravan. To celebrate our pearl wedding anniversary this year we stopped at the newer part of Blue Dolphin at number 6 Wold Vale (Which we haven't seen before) the environment was excellent couldn't fault it overall ,but the caravan badly let us down in cleanliness & damage along with things not working plus the amount of flies in the caravan as we opened the door as we arrived was alarming. I did indicate my concerns at one point of the caravan being supposedly of a luxury standard it was very tired looking & not worth the £2,320 total paid for the week,i even rejected the accommodation also again earlier in the week & nearly went home on our anniversary day on the Tuesday 22nd July but a staff member talked me into staying i pointed out to Haven staff to me Haven should have a starting point of a total refund as accommodation was not as described in their advertising & to be honest during our stay we spoke to others in the 10 front row caravans of the pond as those holidaymakers also felt the same way feeling ripped off.Wasn't pleased at all as we was badly let down by one member of staff Jenny that should know better being management as she ignored my last two texts mid-week to her & had the cheek to send me a text 15 mins after leaving the keys at the office in the morning of our departure on our 4 hour plus trip home a day earlier than planned we were that fedup, why didn't she come out & have a word? We were made aware from other staff that someone higher up in charge of the site had only just started during our stay so it wasn't possible to speak to her? Special thanks & recognition must go to Rachel at the reception also to Graham the handyman & to security when unattended children were running riot around the ten front row caravans where we were staying near the pond chasing ducks & throwing stones at them by the water's edge with a possible drowning incident prevented also being near holiday makers cars & caravan windows throwing stones everywhere the security staff member attended quickly at 9.20pm last Monday (21st July) night as children according to the warning signs should be accompanied by responsible adults.Under normal circumstances we've liked stopping at Haven sites & having holidays taken with them at different sites ourselves but given the special occasion this year it turned out to be a disaster & was very disappointed we expected better of Haven.||I do have a full list of issues with the tired looking abused Signature Gold caravan that is number 6 Wold Vale part of Blue Dolphin holiday park including photos & videos but will withhold these back for the time being.||||Formal complaint done today 1st August will take down the review on a positive result from Haven to our disappointing experience.||||* Updated today 22nd August 2025 i have downrated the review from 3 stars to one star due to very poor response & unsatisfactory outcome of our complaint from Haven after a few weeks was offered £98 at first then later offered £343 as final offer against a Signature Gold caravan that we paid £2,320 for the week to be honest if it was possible they would get no stars! Never again will we be booking with Haven & express caution on your booking for the standard of caravan required & the way Haven...

Table in kitchen 4 chairs you can't predict the noise but trying settle kids even at 10 at night and get some sleep our selves with people having party and constant running around but no fault of the park the park it self decent kids enjoyed park their is one swing so alot of kids trying push for the one swing. the treat van was decent only thing that was good priced the kids loved the amusements and spent a fortune the swimming was decent however took half an hour open slide and by time they started to enjoy it you needed to leave one hour slot and and was no available 5 slots to use again all week we pay for slim class that was good golf was okay but 15 mins is a rush when you have kids that need more time and and have a bunch of people waiting for you to move on when takes a family of 5 a good few minutes to finish one section I had to leave in the end as my son started to get overwhelmed due to being rushed lots of activities over priced and no way can justify it when have more then one child 25 quid each to make a cheap bear! washing your clothes is pricey too make sure bring plenty of changes for the kids wash when home lots of segles you will get a shower of poo on you as me and my partner got mid stroll with coffee also the shower in the caravan is so small and shower you have no room to get a wash properly and when need to shower kids it aims right out the shower if your a bigger size I dread to think how they fit in the chip shop was good kids meals loads of chips I think kids over the age of 12 would be very bored here nothing for them to do other then amusements and some kids ended up making our kids cry by following them around and picking on them I think on a whole im disappointed to spend nearly 800 quid for what I thought was gonna be a nice big clean caravan that just ruined the stay instantly of course we had a nice family time and made memories and that matters however you expect what you pay for and I don't think was great value for money either disappointed with the service I would be reluctant to stay at a haven park in future or recommend due to this we spent a lot of money and you end up spending hundreds at this park whether you like to or not and you should get a clean caravan set up for family of 5 and have to early check in you pay for it needs to be more sen friendly too extra long sessions for access passes give them time to enjoy them selves and not be rushed I think this holiday would of been worth 300/400 for the quality of van and definitely should of refunded my early check in fee but it's all about the money with...
