This is an absolutely brilliant and excellent whiskey distillery to visit where you can learn about the process of whiskey making and the history about it and is situated in the Kingdom of Fife. Visits to the Distillery are by Guided Tour at allocated tour times. The tour of the Distillery itself is amazing and thoroughly informative and interesting full of fascinating facts about how whiskey started in Scotland in the medieval period and the history about it through to the full process of how its made from Barley grain, being fermented and matured in a cask for a number of years before being bottled. The tour also reveals some more interesting facts about how the whiskies in different parts of Scotland and materials such as Peat and the different fruits such as Bananas assist in the final taste of it. The tour guides know their subjects well and are passionate about it making the experience even better and one of the tour guides called George was brilliant really passionate about the subject and delivered in a thoroughly informative and interesting way making the visit and experience all the more better and thoroughly enjoyable. There is a taste test of the different whiskies they do, which is really great and nice to get a flavour and taste of the different whiskies. On the tour you can also go into the production room where you can see the two stills which assist in the whiskey making process catching a great glimpse of the process. On the tour visitors can also see the 'doocot' which the houses the first cask made by the Distillery in March 2015 just after it came in 2014. The buildings of the Distillery are of an old Farm and the surroundings are also pleasant and picturesque, which add to the pleasant experience. The cafe sells a range of delicious food at reasonable prices and also the shop stocks a wonderful range of whiskies and Kingsbarns Distillery merchandise at reasonable. Overall this is an absolute pleasure of a place to visit and enjoy a wonderful and captivating tour and taste some wonderful whiskey and from the looks of things and the experience of it the place the business will expand and go from strength to strength. An absolute must visit when visiting the area of Fife and one...
Read moreMy partner & I are no stranger to whisky distilleries, having been to around 10 between the two of us. It's safe to say we are fans of the waters of life! That said, we recognise there's only so many ways you can discuss casks, barley, and wort before you become a bit whisky-desensitised.
HOWEVER!
Kingsbarns Distillery was a total dark horse when it came to our expectations. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted warmly by two members of staff. In no short order we'd booked on for the 2:30 PM winter tour... but as we loitered about, an extremely well-versed (and sociable!) man named John began tempting us with samples from the bottles available! He even opened a new bottle so my husband (as it was his birthday!) could have a special nip. (Too bad he's too old to have a bottle of something his age... haha!) Everything we tried was lovely, and John walked us through the differences of each like a pro!
As if that wasn't enough, we were then taken on what is probably my favourite tour I've had so far, by extremely well-versed David! With a great sense of humour, he engaged the whole crowd, laying out the groundworks of the whisky-making process--even throwing in some gentle chemistry at us during the tour! (As a former biology student, mad props!) This coupled with the old-meets-new, lovingly designed interactive distillery tour, man. We were chuffed to bits!
What a fantastic distillery. Combining history with a super slick interior, this distillery has a lot going for it--but the overwhelming friendliness of the staff wins this place hands-down. So what're you waiting...
Read moreAbsolutely cracking wee distillery, well worth the visit. This is a reasonably new distillery but has been exceptionally well designed. The visitor's center is charming and comfortable with a nice cafe. The staff at reception and in the shop were incredibly nice. Very, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
We did the distillery tour, which is one of the best I've done (I've been to about ten in Scotland). Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guide who absolutely made the trip. I can't remember his name but he was very tall with dark curly hair!
As a new distillery, they don't have any of their whisky available for tasting or purchase yet (although the inaugural release was imminent at the time of writing). However, they do have a great line of gins, surprisingly tasty new-make spirit and some outstanding private bottlings from other distilleries available, so there's still plenty to experience!
Obviously nobody knows for sure what their whisky will ultimately be like but certainly all the ingredients and passion are there for it to be some outstanding liquid.
It's also in a beautiful part of the country with lots of other fun things to do and see within a short driving distance. I highly...
