Terrible uni all round. Rife with bullying and social exclusion if "your face doesn't fit" i.e. you're not involved in their overspent rugby team or events. 2015-16 I was here for a semester. Awful halls accommodation, and a dreadful 'international business' course. Poorly managed overall. I will never forget the ridiculous introduction bombshell of "we at the university of hull dont feel you should be awarded an honours degree unless you have done some maths." (They sneakily didn't mention any of this before applying) I.e. a quantitative methods module on a Stephen Hawking level.....utterly ridiculous.
So even if you got a 1st in all of your modules but blundered that one module, you would only be awarded an "ordinary degree". What moron actually implemented this?? Anyway, that made me realise it was time to drop out and I am SO HAPPY I DID! Went a far better university (university of sheffield) and had a much better time and I made friends for life who I still speak to and who have even gotten me decent connections and I actually gained knowledge in a useful subject that has since lead me to so many opportunities across the world.
DO NOT APPLY TO THIS UNI! Its not even remotely prestigious and the quality of their education is appaling! And if you're not a "bro yuppie" type, you'll have a hard time here socially. Oh and Hull as a city is not a particularly pleasant...
Read moreI initially gave the University a positive review in 2018 after completing my first year but fast forward to 2020 I have now withdrawn from my course after reaching the third year. Teaching on the computer science course has been abysmal in 2020 and using the coronavirus as an excuse is not acceptable. My course moved to all online teaching and it is simply not worth the money you pay for your uni course to be only taught through Microsoft Teams.
Communication between students and the university has all been terrible for example I was never told when I would receive my second year results and I had to email the student hub multiple times over a month to finally get a date for when I would receive them.
Online only teaching is an awful experience and I hope future students do not have to endure the same teaching. You could learn more from watching YouTube videos then what you would from the University of Hull.
Honestly the University of Hull just treat you like a number at no point during my course did I feel like they cared about students wellbeing or mental health. They can clearly see which students are struggling due to poor results but they do not reach out to these students...
Read moreI am currently a PhD student at Hull and the environment is wonderful. Staff are very supportive and you can see that the university has created a space specifically designed to accommodate postgraduate students e.g. the Graduate school and a lounge for PhD students in the newly refurbished library. The university has further tried to accommodate students who don't live in Hull through Easter and Summer school PGTS courses which take place in a week of intense study. I attended the 2014 Easter school and PhD students attending were particularly welcomed with a complimentary lunch, which also provided an opportunity to meet other students and discuss the modules offered. The university furthermore encourages taking part in conference presentations and has funding allocated for approved expenses related to conference papers. Overall the experience has...
