We’ve visited a few other similar Forestry Commission destinations and think this is probably the least well done of the three. But it’s still a great place to go for walks, or try Go Ape or do one of the other activities available at this place.
We went on the newly completed play trail but did struggle a bit with the wayfinding. In general the play areas weren’t as great as they are at Moors Valley. But the kids still enjoyed them.
The paths itself was tricky for our children (3 and 6 years-old) as there were many leaves and sticks on the ground as well as very hilly bits. But this is also what makes it beautiful - the forest is stunning and has some amazing views of the surrounding hilly landscapes.
The café is great serving what can be expected at a place like this.
The new toilet facilities also look great but could have done with being a bit cleaner - this was pointed out by our 6-year-old daughter - but it was 4.55pm (they close at 5pm).
In general a nice place to take the family for a day out and we will definitely go back. The critical points I’ve highlighted in this review might be very much to do with this place still being very new so maybe my next experience of this place will be...

The new cafe refurbishment is a triumph and the selection of food and drink on offer is a huge improvement on the old cabin - as nice and quaint as it was. Lots for vegetarian and gluten free palates to choose from and lots of high carb and protein offerings for the greedy and energetic :)
Worth exploring the number of entrances to the woods especially the quieter back entrance near Wendover Town centre. It won't really need me to say this but the underfloor conditions can get exceptionally dicey after poor weather so do always come with...
Read moreAmazing, they are having a complete new cafe being built and it is due to open 2019 (the plans look amazing). There is a new extended parking lot to cater for many people during the busy summer.
Parking is not free here but it is worth the cost to support the forestry comission and keep beautiful woodlands how they should be. There are a variety of walks varying in length and dificulty with bird watching huts for you ornathologists out there.
It is all round a perfect place to go all year...
