I am incredibly grateful to Angela and Paul for making our time at Long Barn in White House Cottages a standout experience of our 2024 holiday. Initially, we had to cancel our booking due to unforeseen circumstances, but Angela and Paul graciously allowed us to rebook the Long Barn. We are truly grateful for their understanding and support. The communication with the host has been excellent throughout the entire experience. We received all the necessary information about everything we needed for our stay. The digital guidebook has proven to be incredibly helpful, containing all the necessary information that has been carefully considered. We explored several recommended spots for activities and dining from the guidebook, and we thoroughly enjoyed our experiences. Our family consisted of five members: my wife, our 6-year-old daughter, and our 5-month-old twin boys. The setting is serene, equipped with all essential amenities, and the closest town is merely a 9-minute drive away. The Long Barn beautifully retains its original charm while seamlessly incorporating modern enhancements. The kitchen is well-equipped with nearly everything you might require throughout your visit. We were thrilled to find a lovely welcome basket filled with homemade apple juice, mince pies, chocolate, and locally sourced crisps; it truly showcased the host's thoughtful hospitality. The barn featured a delightful Christmas decoration, and my daughter was enchanted by the charming little Xmas tree adorned with fairy lights. The living room exuded a charming and inviting atmosphere, featuring a lovely fireplace equipped with a gas fire that effectively warmed the space. We found ourselves spending the majority of our time in this delightful area. The bedroom featured an incredibly comfortable bed, complete with heated mattresses that enhanced our sleep experience significantly. Our sleep was incredibly restful. The bathroom featured a delightful shower and bathtub, along with a contemporary mirror that I aspire to purchase for myself. My daughter had an amazing experience feeding pigs with apples from the nearby farm and cherished the moments spent with Miso and Poppy during her time there. Paul was instrumental in making it all happen. We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our host for their commitment to supporting local farmers and embracing an environmentally conscious approach. Finally, I am grateful for the flexibility in allowing us to check out later than normal, which made it easier for us to feed our newborns and prepare for our journey home. Our stay was delightful, filled with wonderful memories, and we fully utilised the digital guidebook to explore dining options, local attractions, and much more. We send our warmest regards and look forward to returning...
Read moreMy two grown-up sons and I stayed at Hop Pickers Cottage over Christmas with dog 'Boots' so we could enjoy our own relaxed family festivities and yet be close enough to pop over daily to visit the 'Oldies' nearby without causing any stress for anyone. It worked so brilliantly there are already plans afoot to do it again.
Angela and Paul, the new owners of White House Holiday Cottages are exactly what you want in hosts: helpful, relaxed, cheerful and super dog-friendly, giving us tips of nearby off-lead walks and dog-friendly hostelries in the vicinity. When we arrived on Christmas Eve, the cottage was cosy and warm, nicely furnished with Christmas lights and decorations, welcome mulled wine, home-made Apple Juice, staples, a dog towel and a special Christmas dog-treat for Boots which he wolfed down (I didn't let on it was Vegan). Paul even lent us a pair of size 11 wellies as one of my sons had managed to arrive for four days in the country with only his snow-white designer trainers! Hop Pickers Cottage is small but comfortable, tasteful and well-equipped with blissful cotton sheets and white fluffy towels in the peaceful hamlet of Aylton with its own tiny Saxon church. The delightful market town of Ledbury is a short drive and the nearby Malvern Hills are utterly wonderful for walking. The icing on our Christmas Cake was our bracing Boxing Day hike up the Herefordshire Beacon to British Camp to finish back at the Malvern Hills Hotel with beers for the boys and a warming Mulled Wine for me. I have no hesitation in recommending White House Holiday Cottages and I'm sure Angela and Paul will go from strength to strength with their plans for the future. ...
Read moreI have spent a wonderful afternoon with Paul and Angela, having a guided tour of the beautiful grounds and inside each of the cottages.
From the thoughtful details, paintings, prints and upholstery fabrics made by local artists, hand crafted features in the rooms made by Angela herself to the warm, inviting interiors and peaceful outdoor space (a dedicated star gazing space is planned soon!). Everything has been sourced with sustainability at the fore front, all eco products and local where possible.
It is clear to see that this lovely couple have poured so much love and energy into creating the perfect break away, whether it be a romantic get-away for two (they even have a tandem available to hire), a family holiday with children (walks with dogs and nearby to feed the local pigs and see baby lambs) or a place to stay with a larger group of friends and family which is what I intend to do this summer.
Paul has created a fantastic digital guest book of activities and local recommendations which he regularly updates and through which he helps to promote local businesses.
I left feeling truly inspired and touched by what they have created, along with their strong sense of community, in this beautiful part of Herefordshire. I highly recommend this beautiful gem of a place to anyone who would like to...
