Immense views for very little effort. Silver How is one of the smaller Wainwright's standing at 1292ft. Silver How's summit can be easily accessed via Grasmere and approached in one of two directions, passing National Trust Allen Bank House or via the trail from Red Bank road close to Grasmere Lake, South West of town centre.

One of the main features of this walk is the foliage. Trees and shrubbery line the paths leading up to the summit giving you plenty of nature to enjoy. Once at the top you have sweeping views of the central fells, southward Windermere can be viewed, to the North East Helm Crag and the looming figures of Helvellyn.

A very achievable climb for young children as well. As always, the tops of the hills can be boggy in wintery/rainy weather. Good footwear is...

If you're looking to do a short hike in the lakes: 2-3 hours, Silver how is a relatively smaller fell standing over the village of Grasmere and has a route via Allen Bank, climbing through juniper bushes, cross a high plateau to the summit and back down to Grasmere via some steep steps. The route back to Grasmere via the steps is rocky and can be a bit challenging. We also had to cross a small stream cutting through mountains, however it is all well worth it as the views from the top are...

A lovely short hike up Silver How on mainly good paths but a little boggy in places. The walk starts in the village of Grasmere. Fine views all the way up especially to the south over Grasmere, Rydal Water & Windermere. At the summit a fabulous 360 degree vista. The top is dotted with small tarns, to the west of these the view of Great Langdale is absolutely stunning. The return leg has fine views of Helm Crag. Grasmere village &...
