I don't know why (as I've done a lot harder), but this walk crippled me. Maybe it was because it was a scramble practically from start to finish as opposed to easier paths, and to be honest it never seemed to end. Every time I thought surely it was just around the next corner, it wasn't and in fact were more tougher climbs. The tarn itself seemed nothing overly special (though the fact id made it at all was enough for me) and at the top you're faced with another option of going up pavey arc or Harrison stickle of which I opted out. Instead I took photos and headed back down HOWEVER the flood of people heading up was like a tide and so I crossed the waterfall and exited on the opposite side which although trickier was probably quicker without having to stop for people wanting to pass me. Again I don't know why but the morning after I was barely able to walk which lasted around 3 days. I wouldn't say the scenery was worth the pain although we are all different. Overall I wasn't blown away, just felt like I'd been...
Read moreI see lots of 5 star reviews and then one random 2 star review, I agree with the 5 star reviews. This is slightly challenging hike, a bit of a scramble at times, lots of steps, but that’s about all I can say I agree with on the 2 starrer.
The views on a good day are incredible, you can see right down the valley, and then the view on the day like yesterday was just as magical, admittedly I’ve never done this walk in the heights of the tourist months, but I usually go up it, in Spring, Autumn or Winter. It never fails to impress.
If you can handle lots of steps and a bit of a scramble then please don’t miss out.
If you have a dog, there are some tricky points for the less able of dogs. And if it’s icy like yesterday then you will need to guide your dog, especially as our dog doesn’t seem to get ice and will almost make a bee...

However, some of the things that kept me sane over the 6 weeks were the beautiful panoramic views afforded by Pavey Ark, Harrison Stickle and Pike of Stickle. The view from the tarn itself also achieves this, though with less effort. All in all one of the best pain/gain ratios for any walk in the lakes. The path is a little steep in places and you may find yourself having to stop every now and then, but the view from the tarn...
