We visited here when we were on holiday in the area. If you are looking for a quiet place to walk, you can't get better than here. No tourist attractions and very few people about. It is also known as Eccles-on- Sea, Norfolk for a better understanding of the area. Worth a drive out. If you need some sense of direction, the beach is not far further than Happisburgh Lighthouse. Try googling "The Bush Estate" because the beach is less than 1/2 mile away and there is a RNLI Information Board and Area there as well. You can see Cromer Pier in the distance and actually walk along from the beach to Cromer if you have enough energy, a mere 9 miles coastal walk but so worth it. The walk takes you past Happisburgh Lighthouse. We couldn't believe our luck when we happened upon this beach and we have visited many times since when we have been in the area. This is NOT a Naturists Beach, it's for all the public who just want to have a very quiet day by the sea with miles of sand and sea to look at. No chippy, shops or tourist attractions within the area, so bring your chair, picnic, books, binoculars and just enjoy the Norfolk Coast and listen to the sound of the waves 🌊. The beach is lovely and sandy with a few pebbly areas but try and avoid bringing a buggy, it's not an easy task dragging or pushing a buggy across the sand. I must also add, this is an all-year round...
Read moreI hesitated to review this beach - purely for selfish reasons because I was concerned that the reason it's so beautiful is because it's not particularly well known. But it's very hard to stay quiet about such a stunning part of Norfolk.
Cart Gap is a beautiful, quiet, unspoiled stretch of beach nestled between Eccles and Happisburg. The terrain is the perfect mix of sand and stone - with fossils, sea glass and the remnants of a fallen village washing up on the beach for eagle-eyed visitors to discover. There are no amusements, no fish & chips, no closing hours. The car park is large and you can pay online with an app, so if you forget your change then you'll be OK. The lifeboat station has a small gift shop, and there are public toilets next to the car park which are open from dawn to dusk. Just near the car park is a small cafe with outdoor seating. It's a little bit waspy in the summer, but hey isn't everywhere.
Cart Gap is the number one choice for people who just want to sit quietly on the beach, enjoying the sun and the sound of the waves. If you visit, please respect the vibe - choose a spot away from others, keep your dogs under control, don't be loud and obnoxious. There are plenty of other beaches in Norfolk if you want noisy party vibes, and this ain't it. This is calm, peaceful,...
