Efficiently run punt hire station with plenty of boats (around 80!) available. Weekdays are quieter (no queuing!) than weekends, which can get pretty busy. Life jackets (some of which are a bit hit and miss) are provided for and must be worn by non-swimmers.
What's particularly nice is that you don't have to commit to a specific amount of time; after the first hour (which is the minimum length of hire) you're charged for each additional 15 minutes and you can spend as much time out as you wish (there's a maximum daily charge - equivalent to 5 hours of punting).
You'll pay a fairly hefty (returnable) deposit up front and the cost of the hire is deducted from the amount returned to your credit card once you're back.
There's limited parking available on site but you should be able to park in the surrounding streets (although do check the signs). There are decent loos on site and you can...
Read moreHad a wonderful time punting, celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary with our two teenage daughters and fluffy Cavapoo. The whole experience was smooth and efficient - helpful that we had gone punting before. We handed over a debit card as a deposit to the friendly gentleman (with the beard!). Got our 4 cushions, punting pole and paddle from inside and off we went to our boat #23. Took a leisurely 40 minute punt to the Vicky Arms - would suggest arriving at 12pm as they get busy during the day. Afterwards we punted back the other way and into Oxford. When we got back we found that it’s easier if someone sits on the edge of the bank with their feet on the punt to keep it still, while others get out with the stuff. Paying at the end was easy and smooth and we had a great chat with Dave about dogs. What a surprisingly pleasant experience and we will be back...
Read moreWe were told this was a good place to try punting as it's quieter than other places in the area. Reading the reviews I was worried that it wouldn't be an enjoyable family experience however it couldn't have been any more enjoyable. 3 hours free parking on neighbouring streets and then a short walk to the boathouse. We arrived 5 minutes late but the young lad handling the booking was great. Great customer service skills making us feel special by recommending his favourite boat (39) for us saying it was the best designed and was easier than the others. Lots of others punting for first time so no need to feel embarrassed at lack of skills. Read the "how to punt" on their website first as this was an immense help. In the end a truly fab sunny afternoon on the river. Should have brought some Pimms and strawberries for the perfect experience. Highly...
