I didn't realise this family run group owned two of my favourite places 10 years ago. I've been to two of the pubs owned by this group The little brown jug and the Chaser and now understand why they both miss the point. Firstly these are not gastro pubs, they're not even close. It's cooking (frying and microwaving) by numbers. People often associate good food by its portion and these owners exploit this perfectly. On weekends, service is slow in both pubs, plenty of seating or too much seating and tables with a kitchen and kitchen staff not able to support the covers they have to provide for. The staff were attentive, charming, knowledgeable, professional and understanding. The food was great, very nice to have different vegetables like buttered swede, cauliflower cheese, broad beans etc A nice touch, the horseradish and apple sauces were on the table before the food, Therefore not waiting while the food gets cold.
