A beautiful hike on a lovely day! We arrived to the lot a little after 9 and it was pretty full, though a few open spots still. Have to pay for parking. And no bathrooms sadly. When you start the path, it immediately splits into two directions for the loop with the left side being stairs straight up for a while and the right side being a lot flatter. We didn’t have time for the whole loop so went on the right side for about 1.5 miles and turned around. This was a perfect hike. We did have perfect conditions, which was super lucky. The path is pretty clear to follow, although in rain or fog probably wouldn’t say the same. There is one part towards the beginning where you need to climb up and down some wet rocks. This was honestly the hardest part of the hike we did. There are some parts where the path gets narrow and kind of cliffy. I never felt super scared but if you’re really afraid of heights, you might not enjoy. There were a few parts that were also super windy, with one point feeling like a wind tunnel that we tried to hurry through. It can get windy on the narrow parts as well so just take it slow but overall really not too bad. I could see how this hike is hard in the rain as some muddy parts were tricky but on a nice day this wasn’t a big deal at all. Overall would say if you just walk the 1.5 miles on the bottom path, it’s a relatively easy hike after the rock part and very enjoyable. Beautiful sites and sheep everywhere. Worth...
Read moreNo photo’s can ever prepare you for just how amazing the scenery is. The whole walk is just simple stunning views all around.
My advice is to take the lower route instead of walking up the many steps where the path splits to the left. You’ll be grateful you came down this way at the end. There are a couple of places where you need to scramble a little, but nothing too bad. We did see a woman who had to be rescued as she’d cut her leg pretty badly. But if you’re mindful of your surroundings everything will be fine. Also we saw lots of people in either trainers or shoes. We walked up one side with water running down and at the top it was wet/boggy in a lot of places. So if you don’t want to get soaking wet feet you should wear proper footwear.
We got there about 8.45am on the last week of September, the car park was half full by then. Once we got down just after midday the car park was completely full. Some people sitting waiting for a space and some came up and drove straight back down. There was a food van in the car park. The burgers were reasonably priced and were huge. Also did hotdogs & bacon rolls. Tea, coffee, soft drinks and chocolate.
There are no toilets or bins there though. So...
Read moreAmazing, AMAZING views! Car park is 3 pounds FOR 3 hours, and you can see some great views from there already. If you continue to hike upwards to the “Needle”, you will continue see more stunning views that exceed that of the car park. The Needle is the closest second “destination” of the hike, but is only the beginning of the entire trail (which we had no plans of completing lol). The upward climb is not immediately steep but the incline is significant over time. The path is pretty clear and well tread most of the time with a few tricky spots… the climb itself (up to the Needle anyway) is not that challenging itself except for the fact that the high wind speeds make the journey much harder than it otherwise would be. Strongly recommend a windbreaker, gloves and a hat because it is super windy up there! Worth it for the...
