This was our second time to the island, the first time it was first class all way. This time the hotel was still first class but the service was not so great. There was a lot of very young staff who had not got the experience to know how to look after the guest they looked some what lost. There was nothing wrong but they just did not have the experience. On arrival they did not know what room we had booked and we ended up with a different room. When we went down to dinner the waiter did not know what the canape's were also they were very disappointing. Although we arrived on time on time for our dinner booking we were left waiting over half an hour before our order was taken, by which time we were the only people left in the bar. We ordered a cocktail when it arrived it did not taste as we were expecting the glass was mostly ice and with in a few sips the drink had gone. The wrong cutlery was put on the table for what we had ordered and we requested some water towards the end of the meal which never arrived The meal was also not that great, we had eaten better . Not the sort of service you would expect from a very expensive night. It came up in conversation with another couple who also felt the service was not as good as before. On the morning of departure I wanted to buy a gift from reception and the girl said she would have to go and look to see if they had any. When later I returned to reception on check out she had not been to look. I am sure we will go back just for the fun...
Read moreThis is an island with a hotel in it. The island us cut off from the mainland during high tide. During low tide, a walk of around 400 metres takes you on to the island. There is nice trek which is not too difficult BUT not wheelchair or buggy friendly. At the top of walk, the views are well worth it across the beach as well as of the sea.
The Pilchards is a pub on the island which appeared to be popular but we didn't try it. The Burgh Island hotel itself is a beautiful Art Deco building but access is restricted to only guests staying there.
Check out tide times before going and if you get stuck on the island after high tide, a sea tractor takes you across for £2 / person per trip.
The beach is dog friendly with dogs allowed on both sides of the ramp during September to May. Between May and September, dogs are restricted to only on the phone right side of access path...
Read moreWe have just returned from 3 fabulous nights at Burgh Island where we got to experience staying in one of their suites. There are not enough words to describe Burgh Island, but a few would include, sensational, relaxing, perfect and above all else, like a family. The minute you arrive, right up until the minute you depart you are made to feel special by every single member of staff. This was booked as a 60th Birthday present, and we believed it would be a one off trip for us. However, we can safely say having arrived home yesterday, we are already checking the diary for our next visit. The food quality at the hotel is superb, the drinks are amazing, there is literally nothing I would change about Burgh and the...
