Venus Cafe — Restaurant in South Hams

My experience was not good. Visited on a Friday afternoon in August queued for 40 minutes to placed an order for 2 meal deals burger in bap with lettuce, vine tomatoes with chips and a drink all for £20.00. The bap was so greasy it was oozing fat therefore really disgusting, the Burgers were comprised of pure gristle and fat, the lettuce was brown and the slices of tomato were tougher than rhino hide. The (thin)chips were cooked for 20 seconds ( I timed them!) in the deep frier so we're soggy outside and frozen inside. The thimble full of tea was ok. The order for the person in front of me was " lost"! I think he was the lucky one! My advice if going to bigbury on sea take a picnic and a flask. It will be cheaper and better quality. Ordered a vegetarian bap today after hesitating as was very dear £7.50. The price ended up being the least of my worries as the bap was made of 3 vegetarian tasteless sausages with absolutely nothing else in the bap ! I simply could not believe my eyes , it looked and tasted so plain I thought it was a joke ! GCSE catering students would fail their exam if they served this ! How about 1 less sausage and some garnish in the bap ? It’s no wonder we are so unhealthy as a nation if even expensive vegetarian products look and taste like this … The extraordinary view and super friendly staff are simply not enough for me to ever come back . Was visiting Bigbury beach for the day and got lunch from Venus cafe. The menu was much larger than expected - offering both breakfast (until 11:30) and lunch items. Had good vegetarian options as well which was good for my partner. Unfortunately they had run out of most wraps by the time I got there (3pm) so I got a chicken burger instead. This was very nice, but a bit pricey. Note you have to buy fries separately to the burgers /wraps - but they are very delicious so I wouldn’t pass on them! Between us we spent £24 for one wrap, one burger and one portion of chips shared. - so it is a bit expensive but it was very tasty, and is the only cafe available...
