We have just got home from a stay at this hotel. What staff they had were very friendly and helpful, but rushed off their feet. It seems they have only one housekeeper on duty per day, and by the state of our room I suspect this to be true. Our room was a decent size but had not been cleaned when we arrived. The furnishings look as though they rushed down to the local charity shop and bought whatever they had in stock. A modern black dressing table with a cupboard which obviously should have a fridge, but didn't and just one drawer for a double room. Two repro anitque style bedside tables with a drawer each and two mismatched chairs. It was not to our taste, and doubt if it would actually be anybody's choice of 'style'. The bathroom had bath, shower, toilet and basin, but lacked anywhere in the shower to put any toiletries (maybe we are supposed to juggle while washing! The breakfast was ok, but nothing exceptional. My fried eggs were cooked in a very strange way, I think. I've never had one where the yolk is solid, but it still had raw white on top! It was obviously served from hot trays, as other ingredients were both dry, and only warm. Also, the toasted should be timed with a calendar not a stopwatch, if you get my meaning. To cap it all, about 8.30 on the morning we were leaving the housekeeper tried to walk in on us, but we had accidentally hit the deadlock button. Fortunately, we were only folding clothes into our case, but it could have been highly embarrassing! This hotel is in a stunning location, and it is so sad that it has been left to get into such a state. A coat of paint, and good clean, and a freshly cooked breakfast would have gone a very long way to helping us forgive other problems, like the open-to-view bins, which looked like a rubbish tip. Maybe this hotel has been badly hit during the covid crisis, or some other business disaster. But it is doing itself no good accepting customers while it is...
