Wonderful Weekend Climbing Adventure with My 7-Year-Old
I took my 7-year-old to ClipâŻânâŻClimb Stoke (Unit 6, Douglas Park, Opal Way, Stone ST15 0YJ) one sunny Saturday morning and we had an absolute blast.
Opening Hours & Booking Theyâre open weekends from 09:30 to 17:30 â perfect for a flexible family outing. Itâs a smart idea to book ahead, especially during school holidays when they get busy, to avoid missing out
Session Format & Pricing Our session included:
15-minute safety briefing and harness fit
55 minutes of climbing
5 minutes to deâharnessâall in one 75-minute package Standard ticket prices hover around ÂŁ14 per person, and the dropâslide was an optional extra for about ÂŁ2.50 per goâeven though my son loved it enough to go twice
Climbing Experience Inside there are roughly 23â26 colourful climbing walls, including fun named challenges like âJungleâŻGym,â âTwister,â and âStairway to Heaven.â They offer a range of heights (around 6â7âŻmetres) and inventive formatsâsome with timers, some with rope-assisted descent jumps
Staff use the BelayMate automatic system, meaning climbers donât need a belayer; instead you clip in and climb safely on your own. My boy was independent most of the time but delighted that staff were close by to encourage or assist if needed
Will's Take on it At first he hesitated, but after a few gentle nudges from staff, he tackled multiple walls and absolutely wanted to conquer the vertical drop slide. He wasnât tall enough for the highest level, but still laughed with delight sliding down midâway. Each climb built his confidence and left him asking to come back
Facilities & CafĂ© The indoor centre is clean, bright, and thoughtfully laid out. Thereâs a soft play area reserved for under-4s, so it wasnât relevant to us, but I've seen other reviewers note itâs great to keep younger siblings happy without needing extra supervision
.
The cafĂ© overlooks the climbing arena, letting you watch your child while enjoying snacks. We had a flat white and a toasted sandwich â the menu is fresh, reasonably priced, and covers both kids' and adult-friendly choices
Some mention that weekends can get busyâsometimes thereâs a bit of queuingâbut this never dampened the fun, and
Bottom Line ClipâŻânâŻClimb Stoke is a brilliant mix of activity, fun, confidence-building, and convenience. The session structure is perfect for a 7-year-oldâeven soloâwhile still keeping things enjoyable for adults. Staff are attentive without being intrusive, and safety feels taken seriously.
We will definitely be backâand perhaps next time he'll be tall enough so Iâll book him onto a drop-slide right to the top. Highly recommended for a memorable, energetic weekend outing with a...
Read moreMy daughter and friend come to clip and climb bi weekly. Arrived today to be told I couldn't drop and go. This is something we do on a bi weekly basis. I was advised today its due to health and safety and the rules and regulations do not allow for any child to be left without supervision. Does this suggest that for the previous 12 months almost every other week that they have not followed health and safety d there own regulations or does it suggest that they were been awkward today? Let's hope it's the latter. Staff were rude and unhelpful refused to listen or in fact understand.
I regret your reply. Insinuating that I had not let staff know I was leaving my child unattended. I sign her in everytime. And the staff check her age as I was advised everytime that if she was 12+ she was OK.
I'd also like to add I have emailed 2 days a d still no reply. So the fact you point out I should email is laughable as you do not reply.
Thirdly. I'd like to also point that not only did 3 members of your staff go outside to vape while I was waiting for my daughter leaving only 1 member of staff supervising. There was also people there under the age of 18 climbing without an adult. The incompetence and lack of safety is utterly shocking...
Read moreThe kids really enjoyed the actual climbing, but I was not so impressed as the parent. There were no dedicated party staff, which you get pretty much everywhere we've been previously and for the same money, which was poor. The safety briefing was a joke, there were so many people not everyone could get into the room to hear it and she spoke so quickly no one had any idea what she said. There were nowhere near enough helpers on the climbing gear, so parents ended up doing most of the work to ensure kids got on and off climbs in good time. We had to fetch our own squash for the kids when eating as the poor girl serving was trying to serve us and lots of paying customers. We also had to request our ice creams and pretty much fetch those too, and they were tragic. Poor quality and they had clearly melted and refroze and really were terrible. Most kids left some or all of it, which says a lot! The whole event felt poorly run and organised in general, under staffed and nowhere near attentive enough. It didn't feel like a party and it wasn't particularly welcoming, we didn't feel wanted and there was little desire to ensure my son had the best party possible. Would I ever go back for a party, not a...
